Can the GOP survive - Can Conservatism?

If Conservatives don't reform the Republican Party, either the GOP or Conservatism will die. The Grand Old Party is in danger of ending with a whimper because it has betrayed it's fundamental principles.

Republican Christians want to legislate morality; Republican big business wants corporate welfare, subsidies and cheap labor at the cost of the nation's culture and security; Republican "Compassionate Conservatives" posture as wolves, but they're just sheep in wolves clothing—giving away the store to Democrat constituencies conditioned to total dependence on the State. Republicans have fallen in love with big government, earmarks, perks, power, money and longevity in office. Whatever happened to national security and small government?

If they are not a distinct alternative to the Democrat Party, what is their reason for existence? The Democrats are rushing down the road to socialist tyranny. We need a party that will put on the brakes, not add to the momentum.

Conservatives have an opportunity to sort this out, and repent of their sins as the linked story indicates. Let's hope they take the opportunity.
