The Times Gets Paddled

Investor's Business Daily spanks the New York Times in this editorial.

Doesn't tell us anything we don't already know, being consumers of Fox News and Talk Radio, but it's nice to hear it, nevertheless.

  1. Sad that as many times as the NYT has been taken to the woodshed, they still don't get it.

  2. A friend of mine sent me this yesterday about a local paper, the San Jose Mercury:

"Two weeks ago, Mike Cassidy, a columnist with the San Jose Mercury, asked for help with the Mercury's sagging fortunes from its readers. According to Cassidy, 1000 people sent emails letting him know what needed to be done to "save" the Mercury. I had written and submitted a very long email that I sent to you that condemned their liberal media bias, and pretty much said that it was too late for the Mercury to be saved. Besides, I concluded with Jack Nicholson's famous line from the move A Few Good Men that the mainstream media "couldn't handle the truth."

One of my colleagues felt this was a real opportunity to constructively point out the error of their left-leaning ways. He felt that Mike Cassidy couldn't help but be aware of the left wing bias, and that he was reaching out to us. Another colleague pointed out that as many as 80% of the letters printed online delivered a similar message to mine, and there seemed to be optimism that they would finally hear our cries for fair and balanced reporting of the news

Yesterday, once again on the front page, Mike Cassidy acknowledged all of the letters in an article that carried over to page A14 with all types of suggestions. I read his article more quickly than normal, anxiously looking for his admission that the San Jose Mercury had been wrong in showing its leftwing bias in the news section of the paper. Instead, about three-fourths of the way through the article, I read one paragraph that addressed this matter as follows:

"Here I should mention a fourth theme that appeared in a number of emails: the perception that the Mercury News displays a liberal bias in its news pages. I disagree. But here's the thing: Going back and forth (and back and forth) on the issue gets us nowhere in terms of addressing the steep decline in advertising revenue that has us in this mess. And so I'll hope against hope that we can move on."

There you have it. He and the rest of the Mercury staff simply have a blind spot. As Bernard Goldberg pointed out in his great book Bias, they do not go out of their way to write biased news. They just do - because that is the way they see things. Below please find an article from NEWSMAX that was written last week that revealed the results of a poll showing that 89.3 percent of Americans believe the national media played a sizable role in helping to elect President Obama."

Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. How else to explain it?
