In Good-Bye GOP, I wrote about my frustration at the behavior of The Organizer of my local Tea Party. My biggest bitch was her unwillingness to share the contact information we gathered at the first Tea Party, and to use it to create a citizen activist group, that meets together, discusses the issues, provides encouragement and inspiration to each other, and develops ideas about how to take our country back from the Imperial State.
In that post, I described my annoying exchange with one of her coterie, who insisted that if I wanted a "group", I should join the San Mateo GOP, or the California Republican Assembly, or just keep working on the Tea Parties.
Tjones, understood that for Mr. Coterie....and upon the reasonable assumption of association (birds of a feather) also for The Organizer...it is all about the Republican Party.
And looking back, the few "communiques" I got from The Organizer between the April 15 and the July 4 Tea Parties, were exclusively invitations to attend GOP events.
Tjones instantly understood what was going on: The reason that all the contacts were not being shared, was because The Organizer was not trying to create a citizen movement—and never meant to. She was using the contact info to advance the Republican Party. Membership and Donations.
The minute he said it, it made perfect sense, and explained what to me had been inexplicable...
If there's one thing that is grasped like golden treasure, and kept from profane eyes (like each others'), it is THE PARTY DONOR LIST.
I have had a few days to put it all in perspective, and see what I didn't see before.
The first time I attended a Tea Party planning meeting, I made it perfectly clear that I was not a Republican, nor did I want to work for the Party. I was assured that this was to be a non-partisan event...even though because of personal contacts, we were 'conveniently' meeting at GOP County headquarters.
Call me stupid. I believed them.
Of course, I don't mind working with Republicans, but I don't want to work for them. I don't want my money, my time, my efforts to be used to advance the Party's agenda, politicians or candidates—particularly without my consent and against my clearly stated wishes.
And I am now certain that that is exactly what happened. I believe that The Organizer and her Coterie, having assured us of the non-partisan nature of the Tea Parties, used us volunteers to help organize a gathering from which she mined names & info with the sole purpose of using them exclusively as potential members of and donors to the Republican Party.
She really shouldn't have done that.
The Organizer was upset because I collected a few signatures. Wait till she sees what I do next time.

(blushing for the mention)...I "believed them",as well, during the ardor of "the Gingrich Revolution" in '94,and sent money,etc...my Dad remarked at the time "Why send them your hard-earned money, they're whores in the pockets of the Big Boys, and don't give a shit about you, just air-time".A wise man,who had the guts to non-chalantly ask, in an elevator in an Atlanta hotel in the mid-70s of a fellow passenger, "How's it going,Cassius?" to Muhammed Ali .I miss him.Big shoes to fill...
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding. It totally made everything crystal clear.
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful. And, as I said....now really pissed...heh heh.
I was worse, I called my dad a Nazi...and he called me a Commie during my Anti-Vietnam days.
I was wrong. He was right.
Sigh...

ReplyDeleteWell, you can gather signatures if you like - I have no problem with that, but you might want to consider doing something REALLY radical.
ReplyDeleteConsider their advice carefully, and think about becoming a republican. Sure, you would have to put up with the same conniving, scheming bunch, but you'd maybe improve both parties by making the switch.
Given your attitudes on guns, the democrats would probably be glad to be rid of you, and the repubs would be glad to have you.
Just a thought.
Sorry...I guess I wasn't clear. I AM a Republican.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard the Republican party apparatchiks talking about Sarah Palin lately?
The career politicians of both parties have come to think of themselves as the ruling elite.
And it's not good for the Republic.
