Reuters Caught On the Horns of a Dilemma

Reuters is having a breakdown, caused by cognitive dissonance.

It really, really wants to love Barack Obama, and give him credit and praise for everything he does, but just now that has run smack against their equally pressing need to stand up for pirates, outlaws, thugs, tyrants and madmen.

This story: WRAPUP 5-Somali militants fire at U.S. lawmaker veers like a drunken Somali on a broken bicycle, from praise and admiration of Obama for killing pirates....to praise and admiration for the pirates—whom Obama killed.

Of course we've known for some time that Reuters are a joke, and are incapable of the reportage of actual facts. But their ideological imperative in this case is threatening to create actual schizophrenia.

The voices they're hearing are telling them two different and opposing things. It'll be interesting to see which voices prevail in the long run. Can we expect praise of Obama if he actually engages and defeats more bad guys on the international scene? Or will he, by those very actions, become a member of the 'wrong' team, on the wrong side...and merciliessly attacked as was President Bush?

Alternatively, is their blind adoration of Obama such that if he declares that the pirates are evil miscreants, will that be enough for Reuters to finally, grudgingly agree that the ratty bucaneers might possibly be less than peaceful, model citizens, even though they are from a poor nation...and never had a chance. And are black. And are muslim?

Poor Reuters. It's a tough damned call.

  1. Our hero. Kills three Somali pirates in the morning, and rolls Easter Eggs with the children of Gay and Lesbian parents on the White House lawn in the afternoon. My heads still spinning Gunnie.
