Another Gun Show...

In response to my last post: The Gun Show, reader BHenry left this comment. He captures the sense that something's in the air that a lot of us are feeling. That tingle on the back of the neck that warns us on an instinctual level that something is wrong, and that bad craziness is coming.

He lives in rural Missouri; I live on the San Francisco peninsula—it's affecting people everywhere. And in a time of serious economic insecurity, when a lot of us don't know if we'll have a job in six months...that sense of weirdness is moving us to spend our precious resources on expensive items like guns and ammo.

And it's not just the fringe types anymore, preparing for some imaginary doomsday confrontation with the gummint...it's a whole big chunk of the sensible, responsible, down-to-earth population of our country.

But, I'll let him tell you himself...

Today must have been gun show Saturday. I live in rural Missouri.

A small town near here had a gun show at the Optimist Center. The town has around 1800 population. The place was PACKED. Waiting lines for everything. You had to walk the isles sideways to get through. Of course, everyone was polite and didn't seem to mind the crowd or the waiting for ammo... if you could get it. ... besides it was a chance to talk and meet friends.

Black rifles were scarce and parts expensive. 9mm ammo is gone. It is no where to be found. At a bible study sat night we had a bible quiz before we ate and the prize was a box of 9mm ammo... no kidding.

I know the midwest rural stereotype ... uneducated billy bobs... not so.. doctors, lawyers, engineers (my chosen vocation) carpenters, truck drivers, farmers, moms, pastors (interesting side note... after the bible study.. the men and more than a few women gathered around to show off their newer gun purchases.. last night our preacher showed off his new 38 special taurus.. nice little gun).

I say all of this to say this... to the last person I've talked to lately.. all agree, something wicked this way comes. It seems that no one can articulate what it is... none the less its coming.

I read somewhere that right before a snow avalanche survivors recall a change in the ambient environment... a sense of impending doom... I suspect it is actually a change in air pressure caused by a sudden massive displacement of air by the huge tonnage of snow coming down the mountain.

That is what people are experiencing right now.. a sudden massive displacement in their ambient environment...

It is what James Surowiecki calls THE WISDOM OF CROWDS.

My advice is to pray and prepare.

Take care and God Bless,

BHenry

God Bless us all. For..."these are the times that try mens' souls". And whatever comes, we must be grounded in true principles and values, so that should we find ourselves required to act, we will do so with honor and righteousness.

On a personal note, I mentioned this feeling, very obliquely to my sister yesterday afternoon, and she did one of those eye-roll/derisive half smiles people do when they consider you an idiot or a nutcase. She simply won't hear of it. To her all such nonsense exists only in the "fevered imaginations" of people who listen to "biased" Right Wing Talk Radio. She gets the real news from the mainstream media.

Sigh.

The worst part is that I can't warn them. There's nothing I can do. I just have to stand silent and watch them dance over the edge of the precipice.

The "feeling" that BHenry describes is not universal. It's like the angel of death at the Passover. If you got the memo, you're ready. If not, you're unaware of the caliber of disaster coming to your door—and it will devour you.

There really are two Americas.

  2. Yes We Did...

Surely you jest. I suspect you are someone playing devil's advocate.

In case you are genuine..(in the sense you actually believe what you wrote)... President Obama does not rule the country.

The United States of America is a Constitutional Republic.

I will elucidate what that is just in case you are the recipient of a public education and you have no auto-didactic inclinations.

A constitutional republic means the people are given the power of self government through a constitution which enumerates the rights of the individual and at the same time restricts the power of the state.

    NO ONE person rules...

    Its that simple.

Sedition is treason. In the case of the United States of America treason would require an individual to reject and actively work against the constitution laid out in our country's founding documents.

If an individual or group of individuals exercise their rights according to the constitutional construct... that is called patriotism.

We are exercising our rights as citizens in this constitutional republic through the act(s) of buying guns and discussing the relevant policies and actions of our freely elected government servants.

To you sir/madam I suggest our motto...

Yes We Will (remain free citizens of the Constitutional Republic of the United States of America)

By the way... I plan on sending your comment to my nephew who is heading to Afghanistan in a few weeks... just in case he is a little confused about the oath he has recently taken. Just so he knows that the oath was to uphold and protect the constitution... NOT a supreme ruler as you have suggested.

Take care and good luck, I have a feeling you are going to need it.

    BHenry

  3. I deleted YES WE DID's comment. When he learns how to communicate like a grownup he can hang out with us adults.

At the moment, he's banished to the playpen, and a time out.
