How ironic that Martin Luther King day turns out to be the last day of the United States as we know her, because the first black president is about to be inaugurated, and there's every prospect that he will undermine all that she has meant to freedom and prosperity for us and the world. There's every prospect the majority of Americans will follow him over the cliff and into the abyss.
Equally ironic is the fact that Thomas Sowell, one the best minds in the country, and who is also black, "can't watch television except for sports", because he can't stand all the "hoopla" going on over Obama.
Ironic that a country that was willing to go to war with itself in order to end slavery, that a country that in just over 100 years raised blacks from slavery to the highest, most powerful, most respected position in the world, is seen by the first black president as a failed and flawed culture that offers no hope, and requires "change".
Hmm, maybe today being MLK Day isn't so ironic after all. Considering that Barack Obama was elected almost entirely due to the color of his skin—and most particularly by blacks—while the the content of his character was utterly ignored, Martin Luther King may be a fitting symbol of the United States as it was.

As the song says "its the end of the world as we know it" and only history will tell if he is as bad as it looks like he will be. . .
ReplyDeleteBy "history" do you mean "next week"?
