The First Freedom Threatened

Let me be as clear as possible.

What this man is proposing is fascism.

He seeks to silence dissent. And if the Democrats actually re-institute this execrable policy it will be tangible proof that they are fascists.

This "democrat" wants to use government coercion to silence those who disagree with his political faction. The "Fairness Doctrine" is nothing less than a full-bore, totalitarian assault on the our First Freedom...Freedom of Speech. Whatever excuses they use; whatever rationalizations they proffer, may disguise, but cannot alter the truth of what it is.

And if they get away with it, none of our remaining freedoms will be safe. They will have broken the Constitution, and once done, they will never retreat.

If they can kill the right of free speech with lies and raw power, they can revoke them all—and as it becomes necessary, in order to consolidate their power, I promise you, they will.

  2. I was thinking about this just a little while ago. Apart from the obvious Constitutional issues (which clearly don't bother liberals, unless a conservative can be accused of suppressing free speech in order to win an argument), technology is on our side. Podcasts, webcasts, blogs, satellite radio, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, even Usenet and shortwave radio are ready replacements for broadcast radio and television. Let them bankrupt the broadcast industry if they want; far as I'm concerned, the industry deserves it. If they try to block use of the Internet, they're the ones that end up looking like Red China. Maybe I'm overly sanguine here, but it could end up being the best thing for conservatives.

  3. Jag...Yay!

John, This will not be aimed at "the broadcast industry". It will be aimed exclusively at AM Radio...specifically designed to kill Conservative Talk Radio.

    It's a censorship "smart bomb".

And whether or not we can move into other technologies is not really the point.

The point is, it will signal that we have a fascist government that is willing to violate the rights of its citizens to do whatever is necessary to consolidate and retain power.

What COULD be a good thing for freedom is if the American people understand what the Fairness Doctrine really is, and understand the true implications and rise up as one against such curtailing and violation of our sacred rights.

But since they will get their information about it from the MSM, I doubt they will.

  4. If you see something successful imitate it:

Hitler also had a "fairness doctrine" for the airwaves: Make sure they refer as much as possible to the dear "Leader" in a positive light.

  5. Probably immaterial. Conservatives have the a lot of resources for info, the libs I've talked to can only handle MSM or CNN in small doses and have never listened to Rush (even though they know all about him).

Bottom line: No change in information availability, just format.

  6. Orange Peel: Right on. First Guns then speech...or is it first Speech and then guns? Either way...

Anon...But, BIG change in STATE CONTROL OF INFORMATION!

The ability to get info is not the point. The point is a STATE that will try to stifle Free Speech. And, if we find other ways to get info, do you think they will ignore them?

CONTROL is an addiction for the STATE. Once it starts down that road, there is no such thing as "too much".

Australia just instituted a nationwide internet filter to prevent any citizen from accessing sites not government approved.

If they institute the "Fairness" Doctrine here, they take the first step down that road—not the last.

    THAT's the point.

  7. I agree with you, but the idea is to get them to be as blatent as possible.

As long as we keep the faith, keep swinging, and show no mercy the more Hitleresque Obie becomes the better for the cause in the long run.
