What You MUST Think

How is this possible? Or this?

We are disgusted and indignant when Muslims scream, threaten and riot over cartoons that offend them.

But when something is said offensive to Jews, we pass laws to imprison people who say it?

I'm having a little bit of hard time wrapping my head around this one.

It cannot be justified. It is as frightening an example of totalitarianism as I can imagine. Ultimate thought police. Understand that these laws are the beginning of the end of all freedom. Because if you think it will end here...you have NOT been paying attention.

You will think what you are told to think, say what you are required to say, or die.

Welcome to the New World Order.

  1. This is dangerously close to whimsical, but given that you recently re-discovered your soul, wouldn't this be a great reminder to thank God every day for the 1st Amendment allowing you to say whatever you want to say without being arrested for it?

We in the UK and our friends on the Continent, on the other hand...

  2. No...not whimsical...you are absolutely, positively and completely right.

    ...for the moment.

I'm reading a book by an American Lawyer, who doesn't think free speech has much of a future in the US either. I wonder what it will take for the "people" to revolt.

  3. Enough of us who think like us in the same place at the same time. And then it's a case of 'praise God and pass the ammunition', I suppose.

I don't know about you, but I didn't have any better plans for my life.

  4. If I remember right Holocaust denial laws were put in place in Germany and Austria after WWII because of the national socialist's propagandists were still running around trying to claim it didn't happen.

  5. Mr Smith...seems as though a lot of us who HAD other plans are faced with this anyway, eh?

DakotaRanger, no excuse. And they're trying to extend those laws today!

I'll give them Libel laws, and actual, immediate, true "incitement to harm" laws...but not this. This is the thought police. And it's the end of freedom.

  6. Gunslinger,

Definitely. I just hope people face up to it.

    DakotaRanger,

So what? History is history. If you're confident enough that your take on an event is correct, you show the evidence and let the truth speak for itself. Legislating against people having a different view is not only hideously tyrranical, but also suggests a lack of confidence in the truth of your assertions being able to stand on its own merits.

History being history, it should stand or fall on its own merits. It shouldn't become a question of quasi-religious fervour just because it involves group X, surely?
