My Little Toy Gun

I'm listening to the radio, and they're talking about guns. Well, their talking about their "gun". You know, in the singular.

Wha....?

Who the hell has one gun? People. What if it becomes inoperable at a very inconvenient time? Like when you need it? Please, at least two. Or better—at least two for every adult in the family.

Oh, and 1000 rounds of ammo for each is not a lot.

I know the press gets the vapors when they are shown an "arsenal" of 4 guns and 200 rounds of ammo...but they're idiots. Don't let them influence you.

  1. Out of genuine curiosity, how would you keep the guns and ammo "safe" (as in if children were in your home regularly)?

  2. I'd lock them in a gun safe which is bolted to the floor.

(Someone with just one or two handguns can buy a small lockbox. But, you must bolt it to your floor or wall, too...otherwise a thief who can't open it on the premises will just take it, and open it at his leisure.)

And...I would teach the children about guns, and demonstrate the damage they can do, warning them that the same damage would happen to a person if they got shot.

I would instruct them in shooting, thereby making them less dangerously curious, yet ignorant, about guns...as soon as they're old enough.

  4. Four is an arsonal? Geez, that means a cowboy action shooter has an arsonal going to a match...I feel scared that they are on the road.

  5. I know, the breathless horror expressed by reporters as they film a rifle, shotgun, two handguns and three 20-round boxes of ammo placed on the bed for maximum effect when filming (and squealing), is pretty amusing.

(At some poor loser's house, who got busted for weed or traffic tickets.)

  7. Dear Gunslinger:

I have two, both Smith and Wesson revolvers. My concealed carry is a .38, the other is my wilderness gun, a .44 Magnum that I hook to the front of my pack when I am in bear country. Both would very nicely accomplish the task I have set before them. Both are always fully loaded and easily accessible in my apartment.

If someone tried to harm anyone and I could stop it, I would. If someone broke into my apartment while I was in it, he will not walk out. If someone tries to rob me, I will shoot him dead. I would rather not take the life of another man, but that choice is not mine to make.

  8. Amen brother. That's why my guns are locked up when I'm NOT home.

But they are not, when I'm AM home.

(We don't talk about carrying guns here. I live in California. *grin*)

  9. 1000 rounds of ammo? WTF, that's a good day at the range. What are you going to do tomorrow?
