Wow...this is exactly my characterization, which I have written here before:
There are only two kinds of Leftists: Stupid ones and Evil ones.
A Leftist who is obviously a good person, yet believes in the Left's ideology, is stupid. He believes the nonsense, but means well.
A Leftist who is obviously a smart person, yet touts the Left's ideology, is evil. He knows it's nonsense, but it profits him in money, status or power.
Most of the leaders are evil. Most of the followers are stupid.
