A Practical Tip

Not my finger...but that's the sort of crack I'm talking about.

Within the past few years, I've been getting nasty splits on my fingers at the edges of my fingernails. Mostly on my thumbs, but I just found one starting on my right index finger today.

It's winter, and I understand that's the most common time for this to happen, but I live in California where it's sometimes a little difficult to differentiate the seasons.

But this winter has been particularly cold—for the San Francisco Bay Area—and I've been suffering with the damn things pretty much constantly for months.

But...I found one thing that works wonders!

Super Glue!

Hold that split closed, and put a drop of Super Glue on it...and it keeps it closed better than any bandage!

It stops hurting immediately, and has a chance to heal.

And it turns out, it's only when cracks are actually open that they hurt. The minute you close it up and keep it closed, the pain goes away...even though it's not actually healed yet.

Who knew?

So, that's my tip for the day. I'll never suffer with stupid cracked-skin fingers again!

Hope it helps.

  1. Yup, been doing it for years.
Another little tip that goes along with this, don't wear leather gloves for any length of time in the winter. The leather absorbs all of the natural oil out of your hands which contributes to the splitting of your fingertips.
