From the Mailbag

From my friend Jon...

Words of Wisdom

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president. --unknown (but smart!)

Depressing but true.

On the other hand, people seem to be waking up from their Progressive-Opium hallucination. It's up to us to keep the awakening and education going.

Sucks, I know. But we were cursed with living in "interesting times".

  1. Those are very intelligent words. Problem is that the depraved, lazy, illegal sector of our society is growing in numbers every year. These people can't be educated because they don't want to be. It's a lifestyle that's been handed down thru the generations by the liberals looking for that permanent majority. There needs to be some amendments to our Constitution; namely banning czar positions. Yes, we can undo the follies that ObaMao put in place, but what we really need are some strong laws to keep another Obie from coming along and trying to do the same thing 24 years from now. And they will keep trying until they get what they want. We must be vigilant and keep on fighting. Liberty is never free and it's never a given.

  2. I had a conversation today with a few-years-older-"Dude-from-The-Great-Lebowski" guy today, first time in a coupla months. Seems he's "seen the light",and was a bit more vituperative than I expected in his anger. I didn't waste time in "I told you so".Mark Levin's observation that what we're fighting against goes further back than Wilson-type "Progressives" (little jab at Glenn Beck-i.e.,it's a deeper/longer struggle than American Politics) is the better way to approach this battle, and "enlighten" associates still stuck in the "counter-culture" pose, yet fall for the Personality Cult/Superman-worship thing.I slithered around in the Punk Scene in a couple cities in the 80s...what I never forgot was that the iconoclastic impulse is the best thing us Humans have going for us,but it can easily slide into Anarchy or Authoritarianism....In other words, ask your hippie/freak friends, "When did you start pimpin' for Big Government dweebs to control your Life? Do you trust them?"

  3. I've already done that. When they start spouting off about how we need government run healthcare, I ask, why would you want the government to be responsible for your healthcare when you don't trust them with other aspects of your life? All I get is that deer in the headlights look...

  4. Patience...some folks take longer to realize that how they live their own lives day-to-day,is different from how they Posture, when it comes to "Da Big Issues" (I think Russell Kirk called it "the conservative impulse" (not a dogmatic, but impulsive response)...Anyhoo...I advocate patience, but understand the impatience when it comes to these nimrods not knowing Realpolitik,to use a Marxian phrase. But,keep tryin!

  5. The reason you have such skewed election results is very simple. These figures are far from the latest but still give a very good indication of the proportions. There are 300 million people in the US, 201 million of them are registered to vote. Of the 135 million who filed federal tax returns, only 92 million actually paid taxes, the others paid nothing or got a credit. So basically when you head to the polls, those who want something from the government already outnumber those who are paying for it by 20 million. Amongst those who want is a very large number of those have nothing to to all day but wait at the polls whilst an equally large number of those who have to pay for the government just don't have the time to waste on getting some lying sleazebag whose only motive is to feed out of the trough of government largesse. There is a very easy solution. All those who work for the government have a vested interest in perpetuating the malignant growth of government and should therefore not be allowed to vote because of a conflict of interest. The same applies to all those who benefit from the government via food stamps, housing or welfare, they too have a major conflict of interest and should be banned from voting. These of course are the most utopiam radical ideas, they were only tried out in ancient Greece and the early American republic.

  6. As you no doubt know, that was supposed to be "cursed" with living in interesting times.

    I fixed it.

ciccio...I contend the Founders had it right. You don't pay taxes, you don't vote.

You should have, as the current saying goes, "skin in the game".

  7. Heartily agree with both the quote and your comment.

The bulk of us were turned off and went to sleep long ago, but it seems as if they may finally have stopped hitting the snooze button and are actually waking themselves up.

It's sooo important to do whatever you can to lead them to education with their wakeup coffee... and the recent string of books on the bestseller lists are encouraging. There are many people who I know for a fact never heard of 'Madison' without 'Dolly' before, that are suddenly quoting the bill of rights to me... now we just need to help them to follow through with understanding what it actually means.

Definitely, ya have to at least get back as far as Rousseau to even begin to get the full picture.

Although ya gotta cut Beck some slack, he's working on it... it's taken him this long to get back as far as Wilson, but he's been making steady progress. I'm sure pretty soon he'll figure out Wilson probably got his ideas from somewhere... maybe if we send him a draft of the League of Nations and Kant's Perpetual Peace, he'll make it back another couple steps.

Waking up is hard to do...
