What it Really is

Health care is not a right.

It is a good. A commodity. Something we need and want—just like anything else another provides and we purchase.

Health care is NOT a "right".

Rights emanate from our humanity: Life, Liberty, Property, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Shoes, lamps, computers, motorcycles, hamburgers, gold, cigarettes, carpet, toilets and health care are "goods".  Others make them, we buy them if we can afford them.

Some people wear Prada; some wear Walmart. No one has a "right" to what they can't afford.

Life's not fair. Everybody can't have everything they want. And some don't even have what they need.

But humans have hearts and consciences. We care. We are moved. We pity "the poor". We believe in giving. We voluntarily supply help and goods for those who can't afford the basic requirements of life.

We start food banks, free clinics, charity hospitals. We donate all manner of goods for the poor.

They don't have a "right" to it; they receive it through others' goodness and generosity.

It's CHARITY, not RIGHTS.

But when the Government confiscates people's money and uses it to provide goods to the poor,  that's WELFARE, not CHARITY.

It's also THEFT.

And I'd appreciate it if we could keep these distinctions straight.

  2. And this is why I do not understand the phrase "giving back". When are the ones receiving all this charity going to give back? I've been giving my whole freakin' life thru taxes. When are the leeches that constantly take from us going to give back? When are they going to get off their asses and get a fuckin' job and pitch in to help pay for what they've been taking for years? I used to help out by giving to charities, but the minute that arrogant no-good petulant pussy got elected, I stopped giving. When the phone rings now and the person on the other ends is whining for help, I tell them to call the white house and take me off their fucking mailing list. The people benefitting from all our giving have never given me anything! So, I ask you, why is it called "giving back".

  3. A weak feckless Obama administration will invite a nuclear attack on an American city. The Iranians are already waving their weenies at Obama by taking over an Iraqi oil field. Israel will not wait for the Russians to install advanced Air Defence Artillery before striking Iran. At least the Israelis know weakness invites attack, as every school yard bully knows similarly how to pick a victim.

We'll need Government run healthcare and funeral services desparately...along with Obamas soup lines (we'll soon have a Soup Nazi,,err Soup Czar appointed next). For GOP States...."No Soup for YOU!!!"

  4. Expect it. That's exactly where they're going. That's exactly what they want: TOTAL POWER.

It's the clear, articulated, celebrated, Liberal/Progressive way.

  5. Yes, the Needs vs Rights argument needs to be one we are all well versed in and able to fire back with in our sleep. With as much sarcasm as possible... for a leftist, being laughed at is like holy water to a vampire... it's the main reason they hate Rush so much - he ridicules them.

    "what they want: TOTAL POWER."

Yes it is, but it's got one glaring problem with their plans, they rely upon leftist policies - and there's one big problem with leftist policies: They are stupid. Laughably stupid. Demonstrably stupid.

Their top-down 'x-spurt' driven policies are decisions made without any knowledge of realities on the ground. Anybody who has ever worked in a sluggish corp recognizes such stupid mgmt policies made from above without regard to the real world.

And best of all, whenever faced with an informed argument, it is easy to show that all they have to go on, is to try and dismiss you, ridicule you, or insult and intimidate you. But if you've got the answers, such as Needs vs Rights, they're left looking like the idiots they are.

Show as many people as possible who they are.

  6. Hell hath no fury like a wing-nut conservative out of power.

Comparing saving people's lives to the purchase of a computer or hamburger is ridiculous. I don't have much faith in the current health insurance bill working its way through Congress, and don't think people have the right to Viagra or toenail fungus laser surgery, but people shouldn't have to worry about losing their homes, declaring bankruptcy or begging for charity if they're in the middle of a battle to stay alive.

You wackos (who insisted Bush would be a great President, thereby destroying your credibility) have made yourselves irrelevant.

  7. Steve,

Your name calling is a dead give away. Now that you've introduced yourself as a Liberal, here's your answer:

First, very few people "worry about losing their homes, delcaring bankruptcy or begging for charity if they're in the middle of a battle to stay alive".

That, naturally, is the default argument of the Liberal with nothing else...play the sob story.

Second, the fact is, the government has CAUSED the status quo. The government is responsible for rising costs, limited access, expensive policies, non-portability...through their never-ending interference.

    Pay attention, this is important:

The free market ALWAYS makes things better, more plentiful and cheaper.

Government ALWAYS makes things crappy, scarce and expensive.

It's the plain, obvious, repeatedly proven truth...but it's one the liberals invariably miss or ignore.

And I would like an answer to the question...if Health Care is a RIGHT...can we FORCE people to provide it even if they don't want to?

I grant you it's a mind experiment using logic...try to wrap your mind around it.

If we take the question to it's logical conclusion, we find the answer to our question. If nobody wanted to be a health care provider, would health care it still be a RIGHT?

And if it would be, we would have to FORCE people to provide it?

    And isn't that slavery?

How can my RIGHT demand your SLAVERY?

And if it's NOT a right when nobody willingly provides it...then it's not a right at all, but a good, a need, a want that is purchased through voluntary exchange - money for service.

Truth isn't always pretty. And its answers don't always satisfy the emotional Liberal soul.

That's why they ignore it so often, and make up their own reality where Unicorns run free, and the rivers are made of Kool-Aid.

You don't have RIGHTS to things just because you want them, or even because you need them.

And those are the cold hard facts.

That doesn't mean I don't want to see everyone who needs it taken care of. It just means they don't have a RIGHT to be.

It's a pretty clear distinction. Surely even a Liberal, with a little, diligent—if unfamiliar— work at thinking can see the logic.
