Clunkers Boondoggle

Apparently "Cash for Clunkers" is running into a little difficulty.

I have a couple of questions:

What about people who need/want to buy used cars? What about people who need parts? Entire working cars are being crushed. And they're not even salvaging parts like a filthy profiteering wrecker would do.

Will there be any of either left when these dunces are finished? Is this how they're going to get people into public transportation? You know, like that other government success story....AMTRAK?

And these people want to run our Health Care.

  1. I heard that the wreckers were required to put something (I forgot what) in the engine to lock it up,leaving a perfectly re-usable car (just drop another engine in...).Anyway,paperwork is just paperwork, not reality.Kickbacks to get okays from government officials is not unheard of. To reference the Blackadder tv series, these wonks always say "I have a cunning plan...".

  2. You could be right...It was certainly my understanding that they crushed the entire vehicle.

Wow...bribery and kickbacks, and a Black Market...Yipee, we get to be just like the Soviet Union!

  3. Destroy the engine, not allowed to sell any part of the engine or drivetrain (including the perfectly good transmission), they can sell what they want off of the body or interior, but the rest of the car has to be shredded.
Car guys like me are horrified.

  5. Warning: do NOT go to cars.gov. See info on glennbeck.com about the warnings:

"When dealers logged in to apply for the cash part of the "cash for clunkers" program, the site cars.gov/dealership prompted them with the warning:

"This application provides access to the DOT CARS system. When logged on to the CARS system, your computer is considered a federal computer system and is property of the United States government... users have no explicit or implicit expectation of privacy."

  6. I saw that too on Glenn Beck. But he later said that the govt took that wording off the site. They meant it to apply only to dealers. (Like that makes it better) It doesn't apply to consumers.

Nice that Glenn Beck doing the story got the govt's attention.

Wonder how long till the put him in a re-education camp...
