It's exactly what I think of Stink-Eye. He has mannerisms, and delivery that allow him masquerade as intelligent. Honestly, I think the almost universal "recognition" of his brilliance, even among Conservative pundits, stems from the disinclination to publicly call a black man stupid. Even when he is.
I don't think Barack Øbama is terribly smart. I think he might be "clever" in the way that street hustlers are. And about as honorable.
I think his major "accomplishments" are "talking white", being light skinned, and of a slight build rather than an imposing one.
And I think these things matter, not because I care, but because the movers and shakers of the Illinois political machine saw this combination of traits as one they could use to push their boy far in politics— to their own ends, naturally.
Believing that whites are afraid of blacks—and at the same time, guilty about feeling that way, as well as for all the past injustice done to blacks— the Demo/Chicago Thugs saw this skinny dork as the perfect candidate. A non-threatening black dude—to minimize the fear—but a black dude, nevertheless—to take advantage of the guilt.
Honestly...it was genius.
But, poor Øbama isn't!
He's a shallow, slick-ish, hawker. With a pleasant voice.
Oh, and the morals of a skeez-bucket streetwalker that will do anything—anything at all—for money, status and power.
Nobody can do and say the contradictory, confusing, absurd things that ZerØ has done and be considered sincere or knowledgeable, or, "intellectual".
He seems incapable of the lowest logic, the slightest consistency, the smallest understanding of cause and effect. He appears utterly ignorant of economics, history, literature, religion, even the Constitution.
One wonders, "In what subject has he demonstrated "intellectualism"?
I wait to be enlightened.
(There was a link to Epstein included, but it no longer works so I removed it. But it doesn't matter, I'm not seeking authority or authenticity for the quote, I'm sharing this opinion of Øbama as one that agrees with my own. I don't really care WHO said it.)
Contemplate:
"Richard Epstein, a prominent conservative [should say: libertarian] who taught with Obama at the University of Chicago, said he likes Obama but rejects the suggestion that he is an intellectual, arguing that he merely mimics an intellectual's mannerisms.."
"It's not a title that's an honorific," Epstein said. "He's an activist."
Obama has the mannerisms of an intellectual, but he's never really said anything, in speech or in print (zero scholarly articles) new, substantive, creative and interesting. As Epstein points out, "intellectual" is not an honorific, and this does not mean that the President does not have outstanding qualities.
Now, I just made a categorical statement, vulnerable to demolition via a single counter-example.
But you can't do it.
You assert (in so many words) that Obama is an intellectual, because you're in love.
The faithful cannot see how few and anemic his gifts really are.
