The Fascists Hit Cigarettes Again

They will never stop. (But we knew that.)

Fascism is growing by leaps and bounds. A new announcement of more government control of industry is introduced virtually every day.

Today's victim: Tobacco companies and smokers.

This is how the Associated Press introduced the story:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate struck a historic blow against smoking in America Thursday, voting overwhelmingly to give regulators new power to limit nicotine in the cigarettes that kill nearly a half-million people a year, to drastically curtail ads that glorify tobacco and to ban flavored products aimed at spreading the habit to young people.

The rest of the story goes on in the same vein. No mention of the unprecedented growth of the size and power of government in yet another sector of our lives.

And note this line buried in the middle of the story:

Costs of the new program would be paid for through a fee imposed on tobacco companies.

Which translates to a new "tax" on cigarettes to be born, naturally, by smokers.

It won't be long before food disapproved of by the food-Puritans share the same fate. Every single facet of our lives will soon be under the direct control of a government commissar. Expect home inspections to determine that you are obeying their directives....coming soon!

At the very least, we'll be imitating England, you can bet on it.

Though it hasn't asked restaurants to hand over their recipes just yet, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration already has begun the process by hosting hearings on the regulatory status of salt.

The FDA currently categorizes sodium as "GRAS," or "generally recognized as safe," but if groups like the Center for Science in the Public Interest and the American Medical Association get their way, warning labels, or even limits, on every salt-containing fare imaginable may be just around the corner. The AMA has gone so far as to explicitly request that the FDA develop regulatory measures to limit sodium in foods served in restaurants.

The fascists believe they have the right to regulate every single thing we do. "Freedom" is not a word in their lexicon. Obviously, they will not stop with salt. Sugar, fat, beef, fried food, and any other food, drink or other consumable deemed unacceptable by any special interest or Food-Nazi will soon be controlled, limited or outlawed by some unelected agency Authority.

Good-bye Sweet America.
