Random Thought

Remember this line?

It is harder for a rich man to enter heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.

This does not mean that riches are bad, or that rich people are bad. It means simply that material wealth, comfort, prosperity can take your eye off the ball, your heart and mind off God (however you define him).

That's what's happened in the West. Our culture is becoming secular because we are so blessed with material wealth and comfort. We are more prosperous than anyone in the history of mankind. Regular, common people have access to a cornucopia of goods, services and luxuries that the royalty of former ages could only dream of. We don't live in misery from birth to death with just a few isolated bright moments of joy or contentment. We generally live lives of plenty and contentment with a few isolated moments of sadness and loss.

"There are no atheists in foxholes" is another way of saying the same thing. When times are tough, when danger threatens, when our lives are insecure, we tend to reach out to a higher power to give us strength and hope.

So here's the deal. I had a random thought. One of the important features of the Progressive/Socialist movement is secularism. But the other major feature of Progressivism is the decrease in wealth, prosperity, security and contentment. It substitutes misery for contentment, poverty for abundance.

Surely one of the consequences would be an upsurge in and rediscovery of faith and religion. I wonder if the Progressives/Fascist/Socialists have thought that through. Serious religious faith, isn't what you'd call is sympathetic to the activist Left's agenda.

It's a conundrum.

Not a surprise, of course. Progressives and Socialists are pretty stupid. As their very ideology makes clear from the outset.

Note: The so-called "Christian Left" is no more Christian than "Liberation Theology" is Christian. It uses the vocabulary of Christianity to advance totalitarianism. God is not at the center of the Christian Left's beliefs...or that of Liberation Theology. Power and control are the goals. Christianity's framework is just used as a means to a Marxist/Fascist end.

  1. We talk about this in the Mormon church (okay, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) as the Pride Cycle.

    Righteousness and Prosperity lead to
Pride and Wickedness which lead to
Suffering and Destruction which lead to
Humility and Repentance which lead to
    Righteousness and Prosperity....

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

The Book of Mormon has a number of wonderful examples of this process in action.

Where are we on the cycle? What's next?

  2. Moving from Righteousness & Prosperity to Pride & Wickedness I'd say.

At least the Leftists are. Problem is, they're dragging us along with them. We need to de-couple...

...and let them follow their road to perdition without us.
