"The problem with the conservative movement is that it is a movement of principles, which is fine if you have a principally-homogeneous society. But we do not. America is a disparate, far-flung society with no shared sets of values. In such a political environment it's either rule or be ruled, and the only type of political movement that can survive in that environment is a party based on interests, not on principles.
If the Republican party wants to be relevant again then it needs to be a party of interests, the objective, material, class-interests of the middle-class. What is good for the middle-class is bad for the underclass, and what is good for the underclass is bad for the middle-class. So, it is in the objective, material, class-interests of the middle-class to have class-warfare, war on the poor. The Republican party can only be electorally relevant by promising the middle-class protections against the rapaciousness of the politically-connected and the social degeneracy of the underclass.
The war on poverty needs to become a war on the poor."
This is very disturbing, considering that it is the very Liberal policies Conservatives stand against that created the environment that this commenter describes. I worry that he's right. And that without secession and separation, there is no longer any hope to re-establish our Founding Principles and Values because so many of the interest groups rummaging within the American landscape are not remotely interested in America, but merely what they can "get" from it.
Leftist and leeches assume that no matter how they change it, how they undermine it, how much they take and steal from it...America will remain the same, rich, free, prosperous, promising country as always.
They never, ever learn that it is the principles and values of Conservatism that made...and continue to make, this country the one they all benefit from. And as they undermine those principles and values, substituting them with their own entitlement collectivism, there will be no more goose providing all those golden eggs.
Liberal/Leftists are like mindless animals, living only in the moment, without a memory of the horrors and misery brought on by their staggeringly destructive policies in the past...and the inability to foresee the obvious implications and consequences of those same policies in the future.
I just don't see how we can share a civilization with these people. They are brutally self-destructive. Never mind the other people they will ruin with their selfish, "I've got it coming" mentality; they are sowing the seeds of their own harvest of ruin and misery.
What is wrong with them?
"Eat the wealthy and we'll all be rich.
Destroy capitalism and we'll all be rich.
Cripple the producers and we'll all be rich.
Squander resources in losing concerns and we'll all be rich.
Consume without producing, and we'll all be rich."
Not a single one of them or their leaders seem to understand how there might be a problem with this formula.
It doesn't have anything to do with legislation. It doesn't have anything to do with force. In the final analysis, it doesn't have anything to do with who "won the election". It won't work. Doesn't matter if you hold a gun to a (formerly) rich guy's head. When you've stolen all his money, and destroyed his business, he won't have any money left to support socialist policies and programs.
Socialist programs have to be funded by something. And that's why they always end up making the rich poor and the poor, poorer.
East Germany and the rest of the Eastern Block under communism are perfect examples, as are North Korea & Cuba. The degeneration of healthcare in Britain and Canada are equally instructive.
Leftist/Liberal policies are essentially murder/suicide.
First you bleed those that produce the wealth that fund your policies, and once they are drained, your policies—without a living host to suck from—die like blood-starved leeches.
Maybe we need to change our argument. We usually talk about principles, but the people we're trying to convince don't have any.
Maybe we need to focus on the pure and undeniable unsustainability of their Utopian fantasies, and where they inevitably lead—and the dreary consequences to themselves.
Maybe we need to concentrate on the "suicide" factor of the equation. The "murder" part doesn't seem to bother them at all.
The Gunslinger
Yep,emphasizing the "suicide" angle would be more productive for wake-up. Anecdote:while yakking about current bs in a local store yesterday with a "Dude" that would be a Deadhead stereotype to others...well,he was PISSED about BO's performance so far. Then a Black guy came in and joined in the discussion.I was somewhat amazed at the vitriol spewed re:"Just another crooked,mealy-mouthed,phony Motherfuckin' politician!" comments, but remained Lao-Tzu in my composure. These are good guys,so I wasn't gonna do "told you so" smugness-response to,I quote,"He's a house-niggah to that bitch Pelosi and that bitch Barney Franks"-type rants.A Churchill quote leapt into my mind:"Americans always do the right thing, after they've tried everything else".I'm believe this is not an isolated reaction, and other readers of your blog are seeing the same incidents, and should be shared, unless they're totally cut-off .Preparing for a bunker-life is prudent, but right now I believe that enough zombies can still be awakened in time to put things right.I am a naive American...
ReplyDeleteSorry, I must have fell asleep for the past 30 years. When did having principles become a problem? These principles handed down thru the past 200 years are still what makes the U.S. the greatest place to be. Many people have immigrated here, became citizens and adopted these principles. Only recently have these principles not been passed on to the next generation because the schools no longer teach them and parents may "forget" to tell their children those old stories of Concord and Lexington Green, and Nathan Hale. You have to have these principles to teach them. You can't worry about sounding old fashioned or worry that some stories might sound offensive. Putting a musket ball thru someone's head, when necessary, might sound scary, but getting one in your head makes for a real short story. "Those who don't learn from history, are doomed to re-live it". The parallels between the 1780's and now can't be overlooked.
ReplyDeleteTJ. I think that Churchill quote was about humans in general...not Americans in particular, but it's true nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're right about the drones. The Liberals we can save, maybe, the Leftists...not so much.
Anon, that's why I recommend the book The 5,000 Year Leap. It's got all those pesky principles laid out in a nice list, with commentary and explanations. Perfect for young adults...and adults too, who may have forgotten.
