Logistics Monster has a great quote from Edward R. Morrow as the title of his most recent post:
"A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves."
I was going to say, "Let's just open this up for discussion," but what the hell can you say?
Except, "Yes it has."
I guess my old metaphor about us being Sheepdogs, defending the stupid sheep from the wolves has some currency. But, seriously, I'm not sure they deserve defending.
That's why the idea of secession is so appealing. Only the people who are willing to do something, to try something, to risk something will be involved. People you'd be proud to defend, to protect, to serve with, to help, to build a nation with.
Maybe sheeple are condemned to be losers and followers by their DNA. Maybe they can't help it. Maybe they like it. All I know is, I'm tired of fighting for their rights when they obiously don't give a shit.
I think it's time to bid them a fond farewell, and "good luck with that", and move on.
If they don't care about the Constitution, why should we force it down their throats? If they want rationed health care and a government nanny from cradle to grave, why should we prevent them from realizing their dreams? If they want to believe in revisionist history, why should we keep trying to improve "education"?
Adulthood implies choices. And they chose to be weak, dependent, stupid, blind and clueless. What right do I have to force them to be strong, independent, smart, aware and engaged?
I say let them have their country. And we'll take ours. We can live in peace and harmony, without trying to force our competing ideas down each other's throats. America and Canada have done it for years. And until the recent invasion, so, pretty much, have the U.S. and Mexico.
The Conservatives who are so dead set against this are living in the glorious past. And I most certainly understand. Sure, I'm willing to see if we can't turn this socialist onslaught back, and resuscitate the United States. But when push comes to shove, and the socialists want to run my life, I'm afraid the time will have come to say goodbye.
To do otherwise, to let them devour the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, isn't being true to our history, giving honor to our dead. Keeping the ideas alive, even in another configuration is much more patriotic. America is not the land; it's the IDEA. And it is that to which we must be faithful. The Founders' America was a small bit of space clinging to the edge of a great contintent. That was the original shape and size of America. But it encompassed all the great ideals and ideas no less than the sprawling America we know. Their America changed shape but remained America. So can ours.
A peaceful secession, like an amicable divorce, doesn't have to create enemies for life....or enemies at all. We just want to divorce the socialists because of irreconcilable differences.
Like every divorce, the property settlement will be the hard part. But as mature adults, surely we can work that out.

great idea - never gonna happen - they won't let - you need to be here working your a** off to support them.

Logistics Monster is right, they can't let it happen. they would never survive.
ReplyDeleteWhen you look at the county by county votes you can see that an attempted seccession won't be a nice, happy, state by state civil war. It will be Northern Ireland. Why do you think obama is focusing on his grass roots efforts. More to the point, how long do you think your fellow patriots will last without cable.
Is there a nice warm country that's nobody's using? It wouldn't need to be move-in-ready. A fixer upper would be fine.
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDeleteMaybe Ecuador. Already a lot of expats there. Check out

Anon...there are lovely free places in America, just waiting to be actually populated.
ReplyDeleteTrouble is, they're all really cold.
I hear Mexico is on the verge of collapse, maybe we could buy them out. They'll all be in the United Sates in a few years anyway.
Right, maybe Baja California, but its a little too close to Soviet California for my taste. Maybe Tamaulipis, tucked just below Texas. We'd want our "own" country where we can have our own laws, the US Constitution would be a good place to start.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if I'm gonna finally get out of California, Baja seems in little close...hehe. I do hear the fishing is great, though.
