Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:
-Number of States won by: Democrats: 20; Republicans: 30
-Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000; Republicans: 2,427,000
-Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million; Republicans: 143 million
-Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2; Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in rented or government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Only in the states of Alaska and Oklahoma: All counties were won by McCain/Palin.
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
This is why separation and secession may be the only viable option. People who are already dependent, and prefer to stay that way—and have the vote—will never give up their free goodies. The only way the productive can escape the tyranny of the majority (of slackers) is to take their ball and go home.
In the New America, only people who pay taxes will have the right to vote—like the Founders' intended!

GS,
ReplyDeleteNo surprise here. Fredric Bastiat, a french economist said it best in one of his many prolific works.. (paraphrasing here.. so excuse me)
"Once people are able to vote themselves money from the state treasury, democracy is lost."
Check his work out, most of it is available on the web for free. His philosophy is much like your own..
Take care..

ReplyDeleteFUBAR
ReplyDeleteBill, I'd love to take credit for thinking of it, but I learned it from him. But I will happily read more! Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteLarry Kilgore...I'm signing up!
How's that line go: "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could!"
Jag, I haven't checked out your link yet, but let me just say, corporate welfare is just as bad as personal welfare. Nobody should allowed to leech off the hard work of another.
Lowandslow: haha...right on!
