"I must applaud this return to placing Constitutional Principle ahead of Emotionalism when it comes to our laws.
While advocates for same-sex marriage will continue with emotional rantings and ignorantly impugn all those who oppose their radical redefinition of marriage as "haters," their loyalty to the facts remains AWOL.
Civil Marriage is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT. It confers a privileged status to specific individuals (or couples in this case) and not to others. Equal Protection under the Constitution requires that in any such case the State presents a Rational Basis under which those receiving Privilege are returning something to the Public Interest in exchange, a Quid Pro Quo arrangement, if you will. Civil Marriage has ALWAYS rested on the assertion that Procreation and raising children that you sire is vital to the continued survival of the Body Public.
This is why individual man-woman partnerships are privileged, siblings can not marry, nor are man-man, woman-woman, or man-woman-woman partnerships privileged. Those latter unions do not meet the procreative Rational Basis that justifies the law. Without that procreative Rational Basis the institution of Civil Marriage is Unconstitutional.
So there can never be same-sex civil marriage. There is either man-woman marriage or no marriage.
There is no interest in the Body Public to trample on the Constitution just to boost someone's self-esteem about their sex life. It is not the government's business to try and give anyone an emotional back-stop."
The opposing posters just called everyone who supported Prop 8 a bigoted medieval bastard believers in fairy tales and a hateful God.
Pretty typical "political discourse" from the Left.
