2,063 Years of Progress?

It's so frustrating. It's not like no one has thought of it before—or figured it out.

Cicero, in 55 B.C. described how government should work.

We still can't manage it. How stupid are we, anyway?

  1. Based on my own readings of History and my own experience,it's not Americans in general who are stupid,it's our leaders, our "elites".To quote an old Roxy Music song, they're "well-educated,with no common sense".They policy-wonk themselves into a stupor, and make decisions while in that stupor, and mistake sophistication for intelligence.

  2. TJ,
You can't deny that Americans are stupid in general for continually electing and re-electing these "elites" to office.
While I realize that it's the power brokers behind the parties that offer us usually less than desirable candidates, we still have the freedom to get our heads out of our collective asses and say no thanks. Unfortunately, be it through apathy, defeatism or naivety, we accept the status quo. Stupid.

  3. Good points.Maybe it's because as they slither up the political ladder, they get lobotomised and sterilized by the power brokers, who are involved in the public sector so heavily because the State has too much power.I am depressed at how childish so many citizens are when it comes to "giveaways" promised by demagogues.Americans used to be more self-sufficient.Where'd the Pride go?
