"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule it."
-- H. L. Mencken
"Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes, not divine, but demonic."
--Pope Benedict, Truth and Tolerance; p. 116
Kyle-Anne Shiver has an insightful piece in American Thinker. I don't totally concur with the heavy Christian emphasis...but the over-all point is well made, and well taken. She's certainly got a handle on the messianic pretensions of our boy, Obie. They are seriously creepy, and she exposes them for what they are brilliantly.
And she had the good taste to include the above quotations. They will be useful for the duration of the campaign. And they have the perfect length and universality required of "mottos".
The only thing I would change is Pope Benedict's word "politics"...to "government".
"Wherever government tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes, not divine, but demonic."
Surely the perfect motto for Conservatives, and us libertarian Independents.
