Just FYI, and to make the point...As you can see, this one is not so nice. it was not drawn by Levi, [see previous post] but his original has been co-opted and corrupted by someone else.
The "artist" has taken the goat head and horns, which to him, drenched as he clearly is in Christian symbology, represents the "devil", and indulged his imagination darkly adding two worshiping horned demons, a reversed cross, and an inverted pentacle.
The high torch of divine fire has been replaced with a low sacrifical fire. And let us not forget the hooded screaming skull with bat wings.
Very Goth.
This full image has no historical magical significance whatever, it's just the product of the fevered imagination of some pale, lonely, pimply teenager...or perhaps the album art for a heavy metal band...
The goat head placed inside an inverted pentacle is the most common corruption of the image. Here is a typical example.
It redraws the image into the inverted pentacle, implying the "dark side", and eliminates all of the original symbology that identifies this image as one of spiritual attainment, enlightenment, balance and "light". There is no upright pentagram, no torch of god-spirit, no unity of opposites, no balance of spirit/matter, no blessing hand, no wings...
Here is cool image, that I like a lot, artistically...but it does the same thing...just a more interesting take on it:
The Pentagram itself, however, does have Magical significance, though I'm not sure the artists responsible for these renderings understand it. The pentacle in the upright position symbolizes Spirit ruling matter. The top-most point of the star represents Spirit guiding the other four elements: Air, Fire, Water, Earth, all of which are degrees of materiality--Intellect, Will, Emotion, Body respectively.
The proper hierarchy has Spirit ruling the Mind, the Will, the Emotions and the Passions.
The inverted pentagram represents the opposite and dangerous condition of the Passions and Emotions ruling the Intellect, the Will, and the Spirit--which finds itself at the lowest level of influence, totally overthrown by the worst in our natures. This is the natural and healthy condition of animals. But man in this condition is not an innocent beast, but a monster whose appetites and emotional storms, coupled with his great intelligence create murderous mayhem and bloody havoc. This is the spiritual condition of child molesters, of rapists, of serial killers, of terrorists, of power-mad tyrants. It can be seen in the behavior of libertines, of gangsters, of Lotharios and adulterers.
It is the terrible condition of fleshly appetites or undisciplined emotions creating the world-view and driving the conduct of human beings to the detriment of themselves and the world at large.
That is the generally understood magical/spiritual significance of the inverted pentacle. It generally is a symbol and invariably a state of being to be rigorously avoided.
I doubt very much if most of the copiers, wearers, or admirers of the images above have any idea of what they are introducing into their consciousnesses by embracing such images.
Some believe a talisman or symbol has no power if you don't believe in them. But psychologists insist that the unconscious takes in information and meaning, and alters our behavior as a result...even while we are consciously unaware of the influence.
And the language of our unconscious is symbols. What your conscious mind considers a ridiculous superstition or a worthless trinket, your unconscious mind may imbue with powerful significance.

Nice to see someone actually understands this stuff and will say it. Most folks see anything that is tied to Wicca (whether or not it actually is Wiccan. . . )and call it evil without even a slight attempt to understand where this stuff comes from. . . .
ReplyDeleteVery interesting...As a teen nerd,I checked out Crowley,et al,briefly, realized it was about power,self-pity,and vanity---in other words,Evil.Wicca seems to be to me the "Episcopalian" (or Unitarian)form of Satanism (hope I stated that right).Animism is attractive to immature minds, but it inevitably leads to de-valuing of human life.Odd,how social (into rites, groups, etc.)we are,yet yearn for a perfect special communication with our Creator individually.Maybe this is why things get so messed up,and why we somehow survive.Yabba Dabba Do!
