SAF Reports...

2nd Amendment Triumph: JUSTICES UPHOLD INDIVIDUAL RIGHT!

With this morning’s ruling on the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, America has begun “its long march back toward liberty under a Second Amendment that means what it says,” the Second Amendment Foundation said.

“Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court should forever put to rest any contention that the right to keep and bear arms is not a fundamental, individual civil right,” said SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb. “For six decades, anti-gun rights extremists have engaged in a monumental fraud that has been unfortunately perpetuated by activist judges who erroneously insisted that the right to keep and bear arms applies only to service in a militia.

“Wisdom and truth have triumphed over hysteria and falsehood,” he continued. “This decision makes it clear that a right ‘of the people’ is a right enjoyed by, and affirmed for, all citizens. It destroys a cornerstone of anti-gun rights elitism, which has fostered – through years of deceit and political demagoguery – the erosion of this important civil right.

“This ruling also mak es it abundantly clear that laws which ban the possession of firearms, or make it simply impossible through regulation for citizens to exercise their right to keep and bear arms, are unconstitutional and cannot stand,” Gottlieb stated. “Today, America has taken a small but significant step toward restoring the Second Amendment to its proper place in our Bill of Rights.

“For too many years,” he observed, “Americans have seen this fundamental civil right under constant and unrelenting attack. We are hopeful that today’s decision will halt an insidious campaign for citizen disarmament through legislation and regulations that have made our neighborhoods less safe, our cities less secure and our people less self-reliant, which is the trait that has made America unique among nations.

“But this fight is hardly over,” Gottlieb concluded. “Today’s ruling is a stepping stone, the foundation upon which we can r ebuild this important individual right. Our work has only just begun.”

Needless to say, we are celebrating as Casa de Gunslinger today. *slipping into shoulder holster*

  1. It's nice as far as it goes. However, it was 5-4 and the minority viewpoint basically stated that the Constitution was worthless. The majority allowed for "reasonable" restrictions. Hardly a sweeping victory.

I'll guarantee the left is already looking for ways to expand those "reasonable" restrictions. I'll also guarantee that half the American gunowners will claim victory and run because they hate conflict and the other half will offer compromises to show what good sports they are. I hope I'm wrong.

Now is the time to grab the enemy by the nose and go for broke. How many conservatives do you think you can muster?

  2. Wayne Lapierre has already pledged taking the legal battle to several US cities with draconian gun laws. There will be some that will become complacent for sure, but I think there are enough of us that realize how narrow a victory this was, and it hasn't stopeed the restictions, and DC still is not allowing you to carry outside your own home. A hard fought victory in that it is a real landmark for us, but the fight is far from over.

    Molon Labe!

Oh, and there will be appropriate celbration at the Mead Hall of Mjolnir this eve as well!

    Slainte'!

  3. It's not the be all/end all. But it's a good start. It's better than a 4-5 split the other way. C'mon...see the glass half full, Anon!

And, can we grab them by the balls instead of the nose? I've always found that to be more effective.

Surely their "evolving" law decision about ghosting child-molesters is a very bad, deeply disturbing indication of future SCOTUS trends.

We may have to, in the end, disband that court...and start again.

Conservatives aren't complascent, their too busy making a living, taking responsibility, doing the right thing. I think in the end, they are the ONLY ones committed enough to do what's necessary.

But I don't mind being prudent. Once the violence starts, you can't put the genie back in the bottle.

We need to be sure it really is "the last resort".

    I think we're heading there, but I don't think we're there yet.

  4. You know my stance on guns. However, this is a good decision. People should always have the option if at all reasonable (and this most certainly is). Score one for the constitution!

  6. Frankly,I could not care less whether the Constitution or Supreme Court "allows" me to have means to defend myself or not.I do NOT need permission for that.Recent school shootings were in declared "gun-free" zones-fat lot of good those laws did.Simple...the lawless don't care about laws. That this is a "victory" shows how far we've slid.To have means to defend your life and property should never be an "issue".Something happened to me earlier tonight that underscored that fact.Turned out okay, just glad I was prepared.Just in case.Heritage,maybe.My Grandpa survived Chicago shakedowns during the Capone days, running a poolhall.Ironic, that we've got another Chicago hustler trying to grab for power. He's not a Socialist, just another crook (yeah,I know,Same Thing).Ever Vigilante!.Thank you,Gunny, for your fine blogs.Good, classy readers-it's a reflection on you.

  8. I am pleasantly surprised with the speed of the NRA on this one. I guess the memories of the vetran's disarmament act and other NRA blunders is too fresh.

It is well known that conservatives have both jobs and a dislike of protest. Unfortunatly, constant protest is what politicians listen to. When you have one side that just wants to live in peace and the other side wants to fight for the sake of fighting (most lobotomised tree-huggers don't care about the issues) the outcome is preordained.

You misunderstand my rhetoric. By going for broke, I mean let's get some protestors out there who are just as obnoxious as the left. Almost daily I am treated to the sight of those in power caving to such behavior. I want some protestors that I can point to in order to support my policies.

Radical homosexuals are what percent of the population and they have accomplished what? Gun owners are what percent of the population and we have accomplished what? It's not a government plot, it's a result of the tactics each group uses. We need to be taking notes.

I am happy about the ruling, but I see it like Omaha beach. Now the real work begins.
