Guns. You think you have enough until the zombies come. Sic semper tyrannis.
H.L. Mencken had it right when he observed that "[t]he whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
ReplyDeleteMakes the point perfectly does dear H.L.
ReplyDeletePJ won some sort of Mencken Award a few years back.I've liked his stuff since his days as Editor of the National Lampoon, and loved those 2 collections of Mencken's writings.Shall Gunslinger take up the mantle?...and where have you gone,Florence King, our nation...Anyhoo,hobgoblin raised now by the Left is "Global Warming" and by the Right is Al Qaeda.Don't get me wrong about threat from AQ and Muslim assholes (I always except the Sufi Muslims),but General Patton would not have tap-danced around this problem and we wouldn't be in this mess.Soldiers are for blowing things up,not "nation-building".Churchill once said the Iraqis are the most ungrateful race on Earth.Still true.I think the "good" Iraqis regard American soldiers as tools to protect them and do the dirty work.My Dad always said they should build a fence around the Loony Bin called the Middle East, get the Jewish people out of there, and write these jerks off, they weren't worth one drop of American blood.
ReplyDeleteSomeone...just who escapes me at the moment once said that there are only two positions you can have when dealing with Arabs:
ReplyDelete"Their knife at your throat; or your boot on their neck."
Sounds about right to me.
I'm with your dad.
It was Churchill and what he said it that there are only two postures possible with Arabs -- they are either under your heel or at your throat.
ReplyDeleteKR, thanks. Exactamento!
