In an addendum to my last post, I'd like to add Appetites to the motivations behind AS (Atheistic Secularism)
I have made the point in this blog many times that Liberal "feel" and Conservatives "think".
But there's more to it than that, actually. Animal appetites play a large part in the preferences of the Left. "Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll" is a fundamental basis for much of their politics.
Specifically, their notion of "freedom" begins and ends with the freedoms:
1) to have sex with whomever they want
2) to get high
3) to reduce societal norms, behavior and language to that of drunken rock stars.
On no other subjects do they wish to permit the slightest freedom of speech, thought or action. (They wish to control what we think, see, read, wear, eat, smoke, say and drive; who we must associate with, whom we must hire, whom we may fire, whom we must serve in our businesses, what languages we must speak, what services we must perform, what allowances we must make, what privileges we must bestow.)
They defend abortion, birth control, pornography, governmental sex education, promotion of homosexuality, childcare in schools...because it advances rampant, irresponsible, loveless, promiscuous sex.
They're crazy for "medical marijuana", and promote music and movies glorifying the use of drugs and alcohol...because it advances the idea that they are fun, "adult" and cool. They call drug use "victimless crime".
They are great defenders of the First Amendment for the filthy and coarse language swamping our public sphere. Four-letter words are sacred. They must be allowed to be shouted, spoken, written, worn, set to music, put on the movie screen; in parks, in the mall, on public transportation, in bars and restaurants...no matter who is sharing that space, or who is offended.
(Unless, of course, it is them. Try saying "nappy-headed 'ho" in public.)
Emotion and animal appetites. These are the motivations of the Left. Everything they say, everything they do, everything they seek to legalize or outlaw is based on them.
Understand this and you understand them.

ReplyDeleteI think it stems from the 60's. When I was a kid, I loved the Left, because I thought they were for "freedom".
Looking back, at that age, it was all about sex, drugs, rock and roll...LITERALLY.
The left was for free love, free speech (which meant shouting "Fuck" in public, abortion rights, women's liberation...and hating all the restrictions to teen-age wildness that parents and decent society enforced. It was for not working, getting high (while being supported by those same parents, of course.)
And every whiner guy was petrified of being drafted...so being in a "movement" where you could hide your cowardice behind a "PEACE" banner was handy. They wanted to be "free" of any commitment to, or sacrifice for, their country.
And for years I thought the Left was the champions of "freedom" because of it.
It took me way too long to figure out those were the only "freedoms" they stood for; and that they want to control virtually everything else in your life.
When I finally got my head out of my a** and looked, I realized I'd had it backwards all along...it was the Liberal Democrats that were passing the gobs of laws in California that were limiting and diminishing our freedoms on every level...and saw the light.
Of course, I felt like an idiot for being so blind so long, and for supporting them out of habit. Now, as an informed convert, I'm particularly anti-Liberal!
