If the spirit in man is the Divine spark, then Islam is a fire extinguisher. If sentience and self-awareness is the shining light of human evolution, then Islam is a black basket smothering it (made of the same cloth as the burka that Muslim women are forced to wear).
It erases the “person”, and leaves a dangerous, animated, collectivist hive-member corpse with no positive drive for individual achievement or cooperative advancement, or life itself. This is why countries in which Islam is dominant invariably have populations that live in downward-spiraling squalor, slavery, and endless expansionist warfare.
The Gunslinger
Similar could be said of most religions...
ReplyDeleteIt could be said. But it wouldn't be true.
ReplyDeleteSure it would.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, of course. Christendom sponsored that great squalor and hopelessness called Western Civilization.
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean.
The West's roots lie far before Christendom. Besides, I didn't say anything about Western Civilization. Practically every religion has, at one time or another, produced legions of "dangerous, animated, collectivist hive-member corpse[s]..."
ReplyDeleteI think, like a tree, a religion must be judged by its fruit.
ReplyDeleteWestern Civilization is the fruit of Christianity. I speak as a non-Christian...no axe to grind.
The Taliban & Iran is the fruit of Islam.
Zen, meditation and the Dali Lama are the fruits of Buddhism.
Human sacrifice is the fruit of the indigenous Central American religions.
I really don't think they can ALL be lumped into the same casual generalization.
That's muddy thinking.
If you want to say that Greece and Rome were the "roots" of Western Civilization, I would not argue...but they are just that...the "roots"...not the "tree". Christianity is the "tree" that developed the "fruit" of Western Civilization...the, um, highest and best (not "perfect") that has ever been established on Earth.
Christianity can claim The Crusades, The Inquisition, the Salem witchcraft trials, The Roman Empire and various other violent dehumanizing periods. In so far as Japan is a fruit of Zen Buddhism there are numerous historical accounts of religious war and of course the torture of the Chinese during WWII. Pretty much anywhere you find people come together behind an ideology there will be those who use it against people who do not fit the precepts of that ideology.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm FOR the Crusades, so I don't see that as a problem, the Inquisition has been overblown by a factor of 10...as to the rest, I agree that people can use a religion in ways the religion itself does not approve.
ReplyDeleteOf course, that's not the case with Islam. It is just as it presents itself to the world: murderous, conquering, enslaving, raping, intolerant, oppressive, anti-intellectual,
Any other reading is wishful thinking.
Yet atheism is far, far worse. Communism has killed more people that all the world's religions combined...for all of history.
Quite a record.
