I needed a good laugh, and Senator Leahy provided it yesterday with his transparent, counterfeit outrage about the NSA "spying" on innocent Americans. He was particularly incensed that he only found out about this Super Secret program because it showed up on USA Today's front page.
I don't think he's been reading the handouts.
Oh, well, that and the fact that The New York Times reported all about this program last December. But hey, truth is beside the point when you can turn beet red and get apoplectic on TV in an election year.
Now, I'm generally not so much in favor of the gummint "collecting information". But they do have one most important task: the constitutionally mandated duty to defend and protect the country.
Unless Leahy is invaded by the body-snatchers, it's a given he will be among the first and loudest shrieking and spitting that President Bush failed to "connect the dots", should another attack happen here.
Well, they can't connect the dots if they can't collect the dots.
If Leahy wants to get all splotchy at invasive data collection by gummint, he might want to start with the IRS.
(It's a damn shame you can't just shoot the bastards)
