Goldberg on Giuliani

Giuliani is not the first pick of Conservative Republicans...some of my friends swear they'd never vote for him. I'm not sure yet. I can't help but like him.

Don't get me wrong. If a card carrying member in good standing of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy were to run, he'd be my guy. But given the options, Rudy has some appeal.

I'm not a hard-core anti-abortionist, so his position is not a litmus test for me. But, I think it might be a real stumbling-block for some of our Social Conservative brethren.

For Libertarian Conservatives, he was, perhaps, a bit too aggressive a prosecutor when he worked for the Feds.

And Small Government Conservatives, might have a problem with the way he used the coersive power of "the state" as Mayor to clean up New York.

So there are issues. But he may shape up as the most broadly appealing, and electable candidate in this race. And while I may not agree with all his positions (I don't agree with all W's either), so far, I think I trust him to say what he means and mean what he says. And that's unusual enough in a politician to be amazing.

  2. I like him too. I just don't think he has a chance. He is a truth speaker, a brilliant mind and a true conservative... with a whole lotta baggage.

Maybe there's been enough time since he was speaker, and his Congress DIDN'T fulfill the Contract with America and he was basically forced to resign.

I'm sure interested to see how he does. He'd be my first choice for sure.

On the other hand, considering "electability" is such a quagmire...after all the Dems chose Kerry 'cause he was electable!

  3. How much money would you spend for a ticket to see a Newt vs Hillary debate?

    One can only dream :)

  4. Somewhere on the order of a month's salary.

And the guy who sets THAT up deserves every penny he'd make!
