Bugging-Out

I've been busy reading two novels:

Molon Labe, by Boston T. Party (really!)

Patriots, Surviving the Coming Collapse, by James Wesley Rawles

Molon Labe is an optimistic blueprint for liberty-minded, Conservative/Libertarian Americans moving to a sparsely populated State, and supporting the classical American West culture that still survives there, and helping to resist the Socialist/Statist wave that is taking over so much of our country. Spoiler: The good guys win. The State: Wyoming.

The author, Boston T. Party (Kenneth Royce) actually has a website called Free State Wyoming (FSW) that is doing in real life what he wrote about in the book! To meet people who are going to Wyoming as "Free Staters" or have already arrived, go to the FSW Forum.

Patriots is about economic and societal collapse in America, and how to survive it. I'm only half way through, but I recommend it. It's more than a novel. Or less than a novel, I suppose, in that it has a lot of exposition that amounts to a "survivalist guide". Nevertheless, there's enough action and character interaction to keep it interesting.

Thinking about all this, it seems to me that we are looking, in general, at several possible problems, or combinations:

1) A terrorist attack that could kill a lot of people and/or create economic chaos.

2) A continuing uncontrollable invasion of millions of illegals that threatens our traditional American Culture, and, as has been documented elsewhere, brings increased crime.

3) Increasing Liberal tyranny (gun control, over-regulation, taxation, censorship, thought police, race preferences, wealth-redistribution...creeping Socialism!)

4) A Federal Government that is morphing into a Central Government, and seeking absolute power over Sovereign States and Free Citizens.

It seems to me that the answer to ALL of these threats is the same: Getting the hell out of Dodge! Bugging Out to a better, safer, more defensible, and currently more free location.

And here's why I think so:

1) Terrorists are not going to hit sparsely populated States. They want a lot of bang for their buck... and densely populated urban areas, with all the hubs of infrastructure and organization are the perfect targets. Let's face it, Muslims are not going to be attacking Wyoming any time soon.

Economic collapse will affect everyone, no matter where we live, as long as we are totally dependent on the current system to supply our needs. A place to stockpile and grow food, to store fuel (both wood and liquid), fortify against intrusion, keep livestock, etc...can buffer the effects of collapse, (and the resulting panic and lawlessness!) as long as it is all in place before things to go hell.

2) Illegals overrunning our borders and culture, not learning our language, and the resultant crime wave...will not end up in the more sparsely populated, inhospitable, self-sufficient locations. People depending on government will remain in the urban areas. If you doubt it, please remember the behavior of the "dependent class" of New Orleans during Katrina.

3) There are still States where the Liberals have not made many inroads. Generally this is true because Liberals don't like the ambiance/culture/environment of certain rugged Western States, so they don't move there in droves...bringing their diseased politics with them. Colorado, Oregon and Washington are places where Liberal Californians have moved in numbers sufficient to liberalize and socialize the politics. Wyoming as yet, has not attracted sufficient numbers to do so. A healthy influx of Conservatives/Libertarians into that State, for example, would help fortify its native Free State attitude and lifestyle.

4) The "Federal" government has forgotten the definition of Federalism. It sees itself not with the limited powers the Constitution specifically defined as the founders intended, but rather as Karl Marx intended, a Central Government whose power is limitless and extends into every imaginable human sphere, from controlling production to controlling reproduction. A Free State with Free Citizens can still exercise the rights and privileges of Sovereignty if they have the courage to do so. But only a State & Citizens with the habit of freedom, a commitment to Liberty and the willingness to fight for it will be able to summon the boldness to do so.

Having a lot of guns also helps!

There are other considerations, of course: Jobs and income; rugged terrain, inhospitable winters; limited cultural options: There is probably no Symphony or Bloomingdales in Crook County, but there is undoubtedly a Rodeo and a Walmart.

The Question: Is any of this likely to happen? Is uprooting ourselves, and changing our entire lives worth it? For Freedom? For Survival?
