I'm reading reviews for Dennis Prager's book "Why the Jews: The Reason for Antisemitism"...and in the various discussions generated, something became clear to me.
The Jews, as Prager says, introduced "Ethical Monotheism" into the world. And part of what that does is forbid the institutions of man to claim ultimate authority over men and their lives.
This fundamental proscription is utterly antithetical to every tyrant, dictator, religious extremist, false prophet, god-king, and Utopian.
Throughout history, the Jews didn't screw around. They held to their beliefs...that GOD was the ultimate authority...and in doing do, undermined—even if just symbolically—the would-be ultimate, complete authority of the wannabe godlings of the STATE.
If you look...I suspect you'll find that in the most repressive, oppressive forms of "government", can be found the most hysterical anti-semitism.
Immediately to mind: Stalin's Communism, Hitler's Nazi Germany, Iran/ISIS Islamic States. All rabidly, madly, insanely anti-semitic
Tyrants that want to control every action and thought of others are the most threatened by the "rebuke by the very existence" of the Jews, who by definition, i.e., whose very identity is defined as belief in a higher, mightier power than any that could ever be created by a human agent.
The existence of such divine contradiction in their midst renders true-believers in all forms of tyranny—from the Utopian Left with its all powerful, all-seeing State, to the current version of primitive Islamic murderers —unhinged to the extreme. And their first response it to kill, kill, kill that which so threatens their most cherished goals of utter dominance of their fellow man.
Where once I wondered "What do the Jews do to be hated so completely by so many ?"...I undertook to notice who hated them...and realized that considering the character of those who hated them, I wanted to be on the side of the Jews. For surely anyone so hated by so many demons and villains...is on the side of righteousness.
So. My answer to anti-semitism is even shorter than Pragers, though not as thorough:
They believe in God. And they act like it.
They hold their belief in GOD primary, a part of the very definition of who they are.
And this threatens the hell out of wanna be tyrants, who hate them for it.
The United States, which has been the haven of safety for Jews in the world...has been so because of our form of government. We traditionally have NOT had a Central Government seeking to rule with an iron fist every thought and action of its "subjects". The Jewish worship of a higher power...in their own way, has never been a threat to the "powers that be" in America, ...because they never sought the total control that the idea or belief in a Higher Power would threaten.
But, as we mover closer to despotism—as the Left is so desperately trying to accomplish...?
