All That You Can't Be

Yesterday, Josh Ernest (White House Press Secretary) actually said this:

“What we saw was a willingness that she [Julia Pierson, director of Secret Service] demonstrated in testifying before Congress under oath on live television today, a commitment to leading an agency with a very difficult mission,” he told reporters. “She is somebody who took responsibility for the incident that occurred about 10 days ago. She also took responsibility for ensuring that the necessary reforms were implemented to ensure it never happens again. That is a sign of leadership.”

I'm trying to think of something (besides everything that Barky himself says) that has ever had less truth in it.

And what does "taking responsibility" mean, when there are no consequences?

Under Julia (and possibly before) the Secret Service has become a hotbed of affirmative action hires.

Isn't that sweet?

How progressive.

How non-judgmental.

Yeah...the intruder beat down a female "Secret Service Agent" on his way into the house.

Wow. I know that I, as a woman, feel so proud, so equal, so important; and my self-esteem is so enhanced knowing that there was a female "Secret Service Agent" hired to "protect" the president.

The fact that she couldn't do the job. Was overcome by a random attacker. Was useless, and hardly caused the intruder to pause in his progress...hey, that doesn't make me feel worse...

...No, of course not. Social Justice is much more important that the President's life!

What matters is that a female has a badge, and is called a "Secret Service Agent". And we can all pretend she can do the job as well as a trained male.

See?

Optics. Optics. Optics. Perception is Reality. Politics. Politics. Narrative.

Does anything else matter?

Yeah, she did an outstanding job. What a hero. A role-model for young women everywhere.

Remember, girls, you can be ANYTHING YOU WANT TO BE.

Uh huh.

Okay, maybe not anything that takes large physical size and formidable muscular strength.

But hey....why quibble, right?

God, I hate 'em.
