Just thinking out loud here, but wouldn't it be easy to convince the Left that secession is a good thing?
They HATE us. Wouldn't they be thrilled to live in a place that didn't have a bunch of evil, greedy, Jeezuz lovin', gun-totin', racist, Walmart-shoppin', homophobic, colonialist, hillbilly white people?
Wouldn't they be happy if we weren't around to pollute their Leftist Utopian Paradise?
There really are no "sides" in this argument.
Leftists would be happy to never see another Rightist.
And Rightists would be happy to never see another Leftist.
This seems like a good thing to work for. Yeah?
I'm not really that married to the idea of the United States remaining in its current form. It is not the land mass that makes America, it is the idea and the ideals that make America.
And we can create it...restore it...on any plot of land we end up with. We will always succeed and prosper because our ideology of individual liberty and personal responsibility fosters that.
In order to SAVE the idea/reality/existence of America for generations to come, maybe it's time to reconfigure the land mass...and reestablish the idea.
"Reconfigure & Reestablish"
Look. I know it sounds ridiculous now, because it's been unthinkable since the Civil War. But we live in a different world now. And we're not talking about freeing the slaves or any such moral imperative. We're talking about two utterly incompatible world views, adherents of which, on both sides, have a right to live life as they see fit unmolested by the other.
I think it's a good solution. A viable one. And I think we need to start thinking about how to sell it.
