Here's what makes it weird for me: I watch a show called Supernatural, and on it two brothers fight against supernatural baddies.
Part of one story arc was that the younger brother ended up "soulless" due to circumstances beyond his control...and he acted exactly as the commenter above describes ZerØ: he had no "feelings" and tried to mimic those around him to appear to express appropriate feelings at any given time. And he was absolutely sociopathic; utterly without empathy.
You think we can conclude that Øbama has no soul??

ReplyDeleteI think a large number of sociopathic types go into politics. Clinton, for one; Bush; Reagan was an actor beforehand, so who can tell on that one?
ReplyDeleteBy religion, we are usually called to be better (Christian, Jew, Shinto, Taoist, even pagan religions like Druidism and Wicca). But at a certain point, you DO have to go down to the mud pit and engage the pig in its natural element. There is a REASON many vets don't like talking about their experiences, especially in combat.
We won't want to talk, either, when that point comes to us; but we need to know now, we have no choice: Violence comes looking for YOU sometimes, and you can be ready or be a victim.
I do not intend to be a victim. As such, I am willing and able to do a great deal of damage, and see my Catholic upbringing as a weakness. Useful when dealing with civilized humans; worthless when dealing with animals who wish to harm me. Damaging, even, because I was taught to see value even in the criminal, insane, and evil - to hope for redemption. Reality doesn't work that way - the insane evil criminals are running the asylum; some wear badges, some are elected - but nothing pure can exist in that situation. So when they come to talk to me, I'm a little "off" - but it's a learned behavior over my 40 years. And it's kept me out of a few fights - no one wants to find out if the beast coming towards them will sit up and beg - because he looks like he might ACCIDENTALLY kill you, just by slapping you on the back. I can't imagine how many police incidents I might have if I were a bit bigger... Just by intimidation factor alone, if I were 6 foot instead of 5'9", with a 3' shoulderspan? I come across as "Big, ugly, scary, leaves holes in walls." ;-)
Standard punk? Walks the other way. Mugger looks at his weapon, thinks, "Still not even a fair fight," leaves. (And I have been mistaken for a cop, that doesn't help any. I NEVER get to play outside of training... Sometimes even IN training, I adhere to the doctrine of "How you train is how you'll fight." You respect the tap - stop pulling - but don't just LET GO. That's how you get stabbed: your attacker taps, you let go, and realize, "OH SHIT!" And he stabs you and runs. Instead, you ease up, so you don't hurt the training partner, and then DECIDE to let go. As I imagine it is with firearms: Target, Prioritize, Draw, Warn, Shoot, re-prioritize and target and repeat shooting as needed. "Warn" is of course because of our insane gun laws and shouldn't be there, but whatever. I can talk fast and pull the trigger while doing it. You don't go target shooting with blanks, either - you want to know where that shot will go. You "respect the tap" by not pointing the gun at anyone, respecting range rules, being civilized. But you don't let go, you do your sets, observe surroundings, and when you group all your shots in a 2X2 head-zone, you figure it's a decent practice session. )
Please correct if I'm wrong on anything WRT firearms - I fired M-16 blanks as a scout, that's the extent of my hands-on knowledge. Watching others doesn't count.
