Not so much...
Red State's Francis Cianfrocca's piece: The Stakes in the Catholic Church Abortion Debate are Higher than You Might Think.
In this case, the Obama Administration has ruled unilaterally that health insurance programs provided by the Catholic Church must pay for abortions. Forget about the welter of discussion about whether the Federal mandate extends beyond those of many states. That’s not the core issue here.
For the government to say, as it has, that its goals are prior to the Catholic Church’s core beliefs, is precisely to say that government power is unambiguously senior to all other claims.
This is radically counter to the doctrines of the American founding. It’s more radical than anything that even FDR said during the New Deal. It quite simply elevates government to the level of a religion.
Democrats should beware. Imperial Government is bad for everyone; even them, eventually.

"Is Government YOUR religion? You hate smug authority figures like bible-thumpers,but... " is an argument I've used on so-called "liberals/progressives" for years, cutting to the bottom line of most political arguments. It's nice when one of these folks get a look in their eyes like "Wait a minute...".Doesn't happen as often as it should. At the core,I believe it's a matter of some folks want a Big Daddy to solve all social inequities and, altough History has shown differently, they believe THEIR "Big Daddy" will behave with no damage. I HATE these cults of personality, whether involving Reagan or Obama or whomever.Yep,I think Reagan has been over-praised,tho I'm thankful he came in to straighten Carter's mess as much as he could.Sadly, politics is mostly about choosing the person who will screw us over less than the other guy. It's the nature of the game..."Who will leave us the most alone?"....You've done some GREAT posts lately!!!
ReplyDeleteYes...Reagan was a breath of fresh air. But we still got Ă˜bama...so it was nice while it lasted, I guess...it ultimately didn't make much of a profound, lasting impression.
