To Larry

It's not my business, exactly. And I don't know if it's the normal or proper thing to do, but I think it should be marked and noticed.

Larry, a reader, commenter and long time friend of Gunslinger's Journal, lost his wife last month to lung cancer. He revealed this while encouraging me in my efforts to quit smoking.

She was only 45. And it's a fucking tragedy.

Larry, I'm so sorry my friend. I and everyone here, because they are all "that sort of people", offer our deepest condolences.

If we can help in some way. Let us know.

  1. Sorry to hear it. Lost my dad that way a few years back. Not a good way to go. . . Hang in there!

  2. Lost my own Dad in 2005,tho the lung cancer was in remission, and it was the cancer in his kidneys that got him.To say "No one here gets out alive" is small consolation to the heart-break of being robbed of more precious time with a loved one, whether wife, friend,or parent.Always remembering how they touched us,taught us,and made us smile is the best tribute and respect we can give to them. They live forever that way.

  3. I lost my dad to lung cancer when I was pregnant with my first son. Hurt so bad because I wanted my kids to know my dad because he was a great man. The were able to rid him of the cancer, but the radiation weakened his heart, which had already been weakened by a major heart attack 20 years before. So, Larry, please accept my condolences on the loss of your wife. -- Skiri'ki

  4. Thanks everyone.
It's not like we didn't know it was going to happen, it's just that we didn't expect it so soon. We always think that we will have more time.
I'm grateful for the time I did have.
