Fringe becomes mainstream on both ends?

I think this might actually be good news.

People seem to be waking up. Hope it's not too late.

48% See Government as Threat to Individual Rights.

That's creeping up to half. It's not just a few crank Libertarians and Anarchists anymore...

  1. GS,

I was reading drudgereport tonight and I saw the headlines implicating the big 0 with the debacle in chicago with Blago.

Then it struck me... The banality of Obama. I thought so what???

Who is going to be suprised? And to what end?

Does anyone really believe that anything will come of this?

People are so fatigued by the incompetence and corruption of this administration ... nothing strikes the general public as scandalous when it comes to this guy. Nothing sticks. Our expectations are so low for Obama that it seems impossible for the general public to be disappointed.

    He will stay in power.

    Dang this sucks..

  2. I think the big missing story here is how each side defines "individual rights". They are as different as night and day between the left and the right.

The left's definition of "rights" centers on hedonism, envy, irresponsibility and dependency. Everyone here knows that the right defines "rights" quite differently. The encouraging news from this poll is that more Americans are coming to realize that big government doesn't want to be their friend, but their master. The scraps of "rights" big government is willing to grant the people are only those that pose no threat to big government and those who rule.

  3. It was February, but the last Rasmussen poll on the topic I saw said 21% of the people feel the government has the consent of the people.

Combined with this, it's not exactly a sign of good things to come.
