"I am not an ideologue."
He should not be so proud of this statement. It's intended to imply that he is not a dogmatist. In reality, it means that someone has no consistent philosophy, adheres to no principles, sees every new fact as wholly unprecedented and learns nothing from experience.
In a word, that is Pragmatism and it is one of the fundamental causes for everything that is wrong in America today.
I frequently make this mistake, accusing the Left of being ideologues.
I'm sorry to have been so cavalier with the language...I wont' make the same mistake again.
I am proud ideologue...by Jeff's definition - believing in the right ideology: our founding principles and values...and using them as the standard against which all political ideas are measured.
From now on, let's call the enemy what they are:
- Dogmatists (The True Believers like Van Jones Cas Sunstein, Bill Ayers, Code Pink, Democratic Underground, Daily Kos) who refuse to see the truth no matter how much evidence is before their eyes....
- Pragmatists (Opportunists like Rahm Emanuel, Al Gore, Bill Clinton)...who use whatever circumstances offer to advance their personal goals - generally focused on personal enrichment.
And let's save Ideology....as the good word it is.
The Gunslinger
Calling a spade a spade, liberal demo-rats are National Socialists. I said it before the election, and they keep proving me right.
ReplyDeleteIf Obama and friends are not National Socialists, how would they act different then they are?
I prefer to call the Left "Assholes" but that's just me...
ReplyDeleteGS, you're absolutely right. The only time I use the word disparagingly is to describe a "leftist ideologue". Ideologue is a rather value neutral word, but with the right adjective, a whole different meaning emerges.
