Fixing the Children

During my lunch hour, while running errands, I heard a "Public Service Announcement/News Report" created by a scientific periodical. I think it was Scientific American.

Here's what they said. Try to follow along with my total ignorance of scientific terminology...

In a scientific study, babies always responded more favorably to members of their own race.

And children old enough to talk, when shown pictures of people of various races, make up more favorable stories about members of their own race.

It would seem that preference for one's own racial "kind" is not "Hate", but a natural, normal, inborn, even biological response to the world.

(At this point I couldn't help thinking about the Left's argument about gayness being inborn, and therefore not a choice, thus not an individual's "fault", and wondered if they'd accept the same argument for preferring one's own race.)

But that wasn't the end of the report - nor the point.

No.

This was the point: It turns out there is one group that does not make these racial distinctions: children with Down's Sydrome and other causes of mental retardation.

It appears they lack the normal triggering characteristic that the researchers believe causes such distinctions.

And they celebrated this discovery and the hope that they can learn to eliminate it in "normal" children as well so that "vulnerable minorities in society would no longer be marginalized."

So...let me get this straight:

If we introduce characteristics associated specifically with mental retardation into our normally intelligent children, they won't be racists.

What could possibly go wrong?
