From the Mailbag

(From a personal friend, J)
————————————————————————————

In today's issue of a Boston newspaper there is a Letter to the Editor,
from a local high-school teacher:

"... current school security procedures lock down school populations in the event of armed assault. Some advocate abandoning this practice as it holds everyone in place, allowing a shooter easily to find victims. An alternative is immediate exodus, via announcement. Although this removes potential hostages... it unfairly rewards resourceful children who move to safety... more shrewdly and efficiently than others. Schools should level playing fields, not intrinsically reward those more resourceful..."

It gets even better:

"... some propose overturning laws that make schools gun-free zones... they argue that barring licensed-carry only ensures a defenseless, target-rich environment. But, as a Progressive, I would sooner lay my child to rest than succumb to the belief that the use of a gun for self-defense is somehow not in itself a gun crime."

The Communist apotheosis that no one should be allowed to enjoy the natural benefits of their own resourcefulness, that identical outcomes need to be guaranteed for all, no matter what any of us do as individuals to help ourselves, is starkly repugnant to any real American! Calling it "fairness"is a contemptible lie. It is enforced mediocrity.

Any so-called "teacher" who will stand idly by and allow innocent children in his charge to be murdered in front of him, rather than protect them with a gun or another weapon, is a craven coward, a collaborator with evil, unworthy and unfit, a currish disgrace to his family and his profession!

This "teacher," for whom blind obedience to his Communist Ideals is held above the lives of innocent children, needs to leave America without delay, move to North Korea or some other "Workers' Paradise," and forever get out of our sight!

I think we can all agree things are spinning out of control when this sort of rubbish can be spoken, let alone believed by someone to whom we entrust the education of our children - and the SAFETY of our children while in their care.

It's time we come to our senses and root out these malefactors from our lives, culture and government!

I haven't heard proregressivism summed up better than that in a while. And Btw, the fact that very likely they don't actually believe that, but will still promote it to the hilt, is even more frightening than if they were to make the actual physical choice and accept it's consequences.

'Fine sounding' ideas, disconnected from reality, and in actual opposition to it, are at the root of our current situation.

Speaking of which, my favorite Supreme, Clarence Thomas, prodded some questioners about the importance of keeping reality tied to the words you get into the habit of mouthing:

"He added that the history of Congressional regulation of corporate involvement in politics had a dark side, pointing to the Tillman Act, which banned corporate contributions to federal candidates in 1907.

“Go back and read why Tillman introduced that legislation,” Justice Thomas said, referring to Senator Benjamin Tillman. “Tillman was from South Carolina, and as I hear the story he was concerned that the corporations, Republican corporations, were favorable toward blacks and he felt that there was a need to regulate them.”

It is thus a mistake, the justice said, to applaud the regulation of corporate speech as “some sort of beatific action.”

Yep, that's right. Same with the minimum wage, sold with the slogan of providing "a living wage", and pushed by FDR as a measure to secure union jobs (and their votes) from competition from Blacks, the young and immigrants.

Another site gives some more background on Tillman, including,

"...But there is another part of Tillman's philosophy that is directly relevant to efforts to regulate political speech today. Nearing the end of his career, Tillman commented in 1916, "I have come to doubt that the masses of the people have sense enough to govern themselves."

As we have often noted, and will explore in other posts about the Tillman Act, today's reformers, with their restrictions on campaign giving and spending, largely share this distrust in the ability of the electorate to discern good arguments from bad and to vote for the policies they prefer. And because they don't trust the electorate to make good decisions, today's "reformers" feel compelled to try to shape the opinions people can hear, to gently guide the "masses" to the proper conclusions....

What sounds 'fine and high', may well be rooted in the deepest of evils, the intent to ensure your inability to make your own choices in your own life - to enslave you - for your own good, and that has been the message of the left from the days of Rousseau on down to today... and those who accept and promote them on the basis of their slogans alone, without further thought... are a danger to U.S. all.

  2. I wonder if the outcome at Virginia Tech would've been different if a student had a gun in his pack, or a teacher? I would think so. I know, age matters for firearms, but I would think most teachers are above "no carry" age. No matter...saving people is more important than the law. Personally, I would've shot first, and worried about the law later.

It is sad that it has come to this, but it has...it is what it is. Look at Ft. Hood...a military base...and our soldiers are not armed.

There are many other "incidents" which could have minimized if someone had had the means to do so.

There is something wrong here...if someone has a gun and you don't, the odds are you're going to die...if you have one, it's at least 50/50. I would rather have one than not.

This goes far beyond "personal protection"...it boils down to "Liberty", and protecting freedom.

Look at Israel, for example...just about everyone is armed. They must be to survive. You see a grandmother who shot a terrorist just before he had time to detonate the explosives strapped to his torso...saved many lives...you see off duty military and police who are armed at all times. All (most of) the women are armed as well. I have several friends who live in Israel, and they all carry guns...all the time. It is what it is.

Guns are a good thing...help you to live longer.

  3. Un. Believable.

Better they all die the same than some use their "resources" to escape.

    THIS is a teacher.

  4. I have, by the way, linked this article. I hope that my three or four regular readers come over and look at it. Sorry to be gone for so long.
