Beating Progressives

Harvey Mansfield at WeeklyStandard.com writes: What Obama Isn't Saying; The apolitical politics of progressivism.

In it he explains Øbama's need to pretend to be "above politics".  And he does a pretty good job of describing Progressivism.

It's long, but worth it.

In explanation of the desire of Progressives to be "post-partisan" is this recognition:

What every progressive wants is to put the particular issue he espouses beyond political dispute.

In other words, don't debate the issues. Just attempt to make people believe that all rational people agree with you, and those who don't are emotion-driven haters and obstructionists. (Sound familiar?) Never acknowledge that they simply have a different set of principles. That would require debate...and put your issue back in the "partisan" arena...the one thing to be avoided.

Surely we can use that information to our advantage, by making everything about the underlying principles.

It's time we learn once and for all that allowing ourselves to be drawn into arguing the details of their policies and programs is a tar baby we need to stay well away from!

    Exactly!

Anytime you allow yourself to begin debating the merits of one policy or another, or how to fix it, you end up with a John McCain defense, which amounts to nothing more than "Nah... suicide is too quick & messy with a shotgun, lets be pragmatic and come to a bi-partisan compromise on poisons".

You cannot win something like the healthcontrol debate on their policy terms and which one adds more to the nat'l debt, it has to be fought on the grounds of Principle, on the fact that they have no right to take our rights to choose away from us. They've no right to take our property and give it to others. They've no Constitutional right to do anything they are proposing!

That's the only path to real victory, the other 'wins' are just shorter strides down the slippery slope.

But then of course, in order to win the way we must, we've got to Educate people that there ARE principles, and it is necessary to follow them... they damn sure aren't going to get that tidbit from school. And of course, here's a good place to start.

And btw, for all the guff Glen Beck gets, the fact that he, for the first time on nat'l TV is pointing out who and what the progressives are... give that man a cigar!

I can't tell you how good it is to hear someone pointing it out!

  2. Howdy! I'm new here. Nice place you have.

It's agonizing how the leftists and intellectual elite feel that they are so much smarter than those of us who have values. So, they feel it's their duty to save us from ourselves. After all, we should just clam up and let them run the country, since we're obviously inferior and all.

    Just pay your taxes.
