What if...

If the monstrosity that is Ă˜bamaCare, the power grabbing, prosperity destroying, privacy ending, individual independence crushing, nation "transforming" psuedo  "healthcare" bill passes....

....what if every employer instantly fired all their employees, and then hired them back as "independent contractors"?

They could pay those former employees all the money the companies currently spend on "benefits"...and the independent contractors could buy their own health care policies, and invest for their own retirement.

Since companies will be punished and fined and taxed for any number is issues regarding health insurance for "employees", what if they had no employees?

I have no idea what the law is, or what the rules are...but I think if I was an employer, and this shit-storm was coming my way, I'd divest myself of "employees" as fast as I could.

(Given how the gummint works, and how good this would be for business, I suppose any such arrangement would somehow be illegal.)

  1. Don't know about the rest of the states, but here in Arizona, if a business cannot prove a series of items about their "Independent Contractors" then they are employees - for example, can the business carry on it's basic reason for existence without the IC? (can a factory produce goods if the ICs don't show up?) That's just one of many questions posed when a business is investigated for being too IC friendly.

  2. Damn...just what I was afraid of.

I'm sure the rest of the US is the same. Why would gummint "allow us" flexibility to live and work as we like?
