I went to the San Francisco, Bay Area Patriot Protest demonstration yesterday and it was fun. I haven't the slightest idea how to estimate crowd size, but it was a respectable turnout...right in the belly of the Beast.
One fun note, as we were walking the half block from BART (subway) to the Plaza, carrying our signs (not displaying them, just carrying them sticks up) some idiot shouted at us, "Get a Job"!
I just burst out laughing.
I don't think the morons are quite clear yet on WHO WE ARE!
The group that hosted/organized the protest, Bay Area Patriots, are the people who organized the first San Francisco Tea Party. They are amateurs, just like us...not professional community organizers or practiced politicos. And they had a nice program of speakers and activities planned. I commend them for all the hard work and thought that went into this.
We The People are capable of things we never imagined when we are impassioned...and that's a good thing.
The only false note, in my opinion, is that they had a Republican politician speak. Fine for him to speak as "a citizen", but not as a party operator. I would have kept it completely free of the taint of Party.
But he only spoke briefly, and was in no way seen as part of the organization of the event.
My friend Pete took the microphone during the "public mic" segment, and gave a rather stirring and articulate short impromptu speech. He's a lawyer. He's good at that. And he's a certified "right wing extremist", so that was nice.
The sun...yes, the sun....beat down on us mercilessly. On us who dressed for a typical San Francisco summer day. That would be in sweatshirts and jackets. Luckily at the bottom of the layers, I had a tank-top, which is what I ended up in, wishing for a sun dress or bathing suit!
It turns out this is only the second event ever put on by the organizers...and I'd call it a resounding success. Especially considering—again—that it was a weekday, when most Conservatives are working at those JOBS WE HAVE.
I'm off now to get ready for today's activity: protesting at a "Ma'am" Babs Boxer book signing in San Jose (about an hour south). She has no time for Townhall meetings does Barbie, but she's got time to pimp her book around town.
The bitch has no shame.
She'll ignore us, of course. But she'll know we're there. And that's all that matters.
I'll let you know how it goes.
