Are You Literate?

Here's the Civics Literacy Test I referenced in the previous post. You can take it yourself. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that the average score was 49%...and that office-holders scored even lower...but I'm just totally shocked. And disgusted.

I missed one because I answered what government should do, while the question was really what government was likely to do. Silly me. They're rarely the same, and I should have factored that in my answer!

In any case, this should make you feel better about yourself—and how above-average you are. And who can't use that from time to time?

  1. I missed two for pretty much the same reason. The fact that elected officials scored worse than we did scares me greatly.

  2. Guys, that puts us all over 90%...and our "leaders" are hitting under 50%.

There needs to be a test for citizenship, voting and office-holding.

  3. Send the short bus for me, I missed 5. Although I will argue two of mine as being more correct.

  4. In the urban ghetto jungle of this nascent twenty-first century, the writen words 'You Are' is reduced to 'U R.'

That's how you speak to these people.

Cause they sure can't speak to you..........fred call

  6. I missed 3 altogether. And except for the one I noted in the post, I feel I can defend my answers as at least "equally" correct as the one the testers chose.

They were the ones regarding "taxes & spending" and "public works".

On taxes and spending, my answer was that if taxes and spending are equal, there is no debt. Not sure how they count that as a "wrong" answer!

On "Public Works", I chose the answer that dealt with the public's DEMAND for the projects. The testers, based on their answer were focusing on who PAID for the projects.
