Why can't we make our free-market case in a way The People will understand? How is it possible we may end up with, in America, Barack Obama as President? What inchoate masochism is lurking in the American psyche? What the hell is going on?
Have we not asked the right questions? Presented the right argument? Made the right contrasts? It isn't hard really. Maybe we're going about it the wrong way.
"Would you rather be taken care of or would you rather be free?"
How hard is that?
Perhaps there are some among us would would actually rather be taken care of. I'll stipulate that. But I simply refuse to consider that human nature has changed so much that most people would prefer the chains of security to the insecurity of liberty.
I think the choice is being obscured. Nobody understands that it is the essence of every political choice. Instead, we all get hung up on peripheral details about policies, programs and plans. But the difference between Democrats and Republicans is a only matter of the slowness or speed at which our freedom will be lost.
The war is not between the Asses and Elephants. It is between the tax takers and the tax payers. The takers include government and everybody they give money to, whether it's individuals or corporations slurping at our jugular. And it is also any individual, business, union, group, race, socio-economic class, industry, culture or community in whose favor, or for whose advantage the government enacts legislation. We are the payers. And the takers are sucking our life-blood.
Until we realize that everyone who benefits from big government is going to favor more of it...further enslaving the rest of us...we'll never rid ourselves of it, because we will not form the right alliances.
Until we convince regular Democrats that it's the elite Democrats that are their enemies, not the regular Republicans; and convince regular Republicans that it's the elite Republicans that are their enemies, not regular Democrats, we are both destined to be exploited and dominated by the Government Class, the parasites, rulers and slackers who live off our industriousness; those who benefit from Big Government: Government employees, grant/loan/welfare recipients, legislative beneficiaries (Special Interests), direct support, loan guarantees (Academia), special access (Big Media), market advantages (some Big Business)...etc.
"The Industrious" includes all of us, rich or poor, Captain of Industry, or burger flipper at McDonalds, or student, Black, White, Mexican or Chinese, male or female, Catholic, Pagan or Moslem, bikers, vegetarians, smokers and health-nuts ...who want to be free. Free from government interference, both through its largess and its coercion. Who want to do things our own way, who want to shape our own destinies; who want to fulfill our own dreams, who want to succeed or fail by virtue of our own work, ideas, effort, values, who want to be free of government tyranny, exploitation, robbery and nannyism; who want to associate with whom we wish; hire, fire, serve, rescue, give to, support, scorn or shun whomever we wish; who want to educate our children the way we see fit.
And the elite of both parties and the entire Government Class will do whatever they can to keep their boot on our necks because it is to their advantage to do so. They only get money and power by stealing ours. And they can only do that if we are prevented from freeing ourselves from their domination.
Regular Blacks have been betrayed by elite Blacks. Generations of Blacks are poor, ignorant, dependent, angry and resentful because of actions, demands and "theater" of Black elites who have enriched themselves by posturing as race saviors while dooming millions to lives of poverty, fatherlessness, hopelessness, crime and imprisonment.*
Regular union members have been betrayed by elite union bosses. Their demands for absurd wages and benefits have bankrupted the very companies that provided their jobs, their livelihoods. Manufacturing has left the shores of America and thrown millions out of work because the elite union bosses rapaciously, under the guise of "taking care of their workers", and coincidentally, gaining power and money for the effort, broke the very industries their members depended on for independence and prosperity.
Regular Democrats have been betrayed by Elite Democrats. Their incomes, their property, their investments that they have worked so hard for are shrinking because of the taxes necessary to pay for unwieldy, ineffective, inefficient, wasteful, costly programs instituted by their elites. Their Social Security, whom elite Democrats refused to fix will likely not be available to them in their old age, even though they have paid SSI out of every paycheck of their lives. The elite's promises of "universal healthcare"—that they have convinced their "regular" Democrats to support with wild lies—will literally hasten the deaths and/or lower the quality of life, thousands of "regular" Democrats through rationed, low-quality and delayed healthcare, and medical/economic "triage" that will leave the certain of them, whether "too sick", or "too old", off the waiting lists for critical procedures altogether.
Does anyone doubt the elites will have access to a different system? One that only the wealthy and privileged can afford? Does anyone doubt they will make an exception for themselves, exactly as they did with Social Security?
Can anyone really argue seriously that these elites are for the "regular" people?
Regular Republicans have been betrayed by elite Republicans who, promising small, responsible government have grown it beyond all imagination. They have conspired with the worst of the Democrats to insinuate government into medicine, education, the free market. "Regular" Republicans watch helplessly as the elite reward irresponsible behavior and punish frugality and virtue. We have watched them close their eyes to corruption, choosing to "get along" with their fellow elites rather than do the people's business of exposing wrong-doing and punishing it. Republican elites, like any other kind, feel more kinship with other elites than they do with the "regular" people of their (ostensibly) "own party".
If We The People, don't get hip to this pretty damn quick, and demand freedom...instead of the fantasy of being taken care of, we will indeed be "taken care of", just like the slaves on the plantation. We are on the auction block, people. Either we can allow the elites to purchase us with their poison promises of "help" and "security" , or we can prosecute a daring escape by sticking together against our common enemy.
Oh, it will be hard. It will be dangerous. It will suck at times. We'll lose, fail, hurt, cry and get frustrated. We'll be tempted to give in, give up. But the rewards (not just monetary—though money is nice!) are worth it. Dignity. Accomplishment. Pride. Honor. Integrity. Virtue. And that which makes all the rest possible, Freedom itself, and the joy of bequeathing it intact to the next generation, as our fathers passed it to us.
One thing an American has always been able to do is hold his head high, no matter how broke...for the moment...because he was his own man, the captain of this own soul and architect of his own destiny. We used to disdain people who weren't. Let's not allow ourselves to turn into them.
We have to refuse to walk down this path. And we have to do it together.
But failing that, and sometimes I despair, some of us have to keep the dream of freedom alive. Even if it is anathema to the State we find ourselves in. We can, at least, do that. We can live free and advance freedom by championing the cause of freedom even if we find ourselves hemmed in on every side by those would would snuff it out.

*Observation: Black kids in the ghetto that turn to drug-dealing are, in fact, manifesting qualities of industriousness, self-sufficiency, independence and an appreciation of free-market capitalism that would, in other circumstances, make them successful small businessmen—maybe even pillars of the community! Even in their most dependent state, people instinctively know how to do it! The very elites who claim to be "for them" have left these kids with only the degenerate commodity of drugs with which to improve their lives and lot, and should be ashamed.

Just the tactic I use when discussing politics with my Democrat friends:acknowledge it's the elites of BOTH parties who betray us all.So far, only one guy continues to be a "kool-aid" drinker, and I've benn pleasantly surprised at the number of Black friends who see thru Obama's bullshit. Then again, they're honest,hard-working folks who pay their own bills, and don't have attitude toward whites. You know,Americans...
ReplyDeleteyeah...Americans, God bless 'em. I know some of them.
