When They Call You a Racist

Five Things To Say If You're Called a Racist Because You Won't Vote for Obama, by Aaron Goldstein.

"So here are five things you can say to an Obama supporter if he or she sees fit to call you racist because you don’t see fit to put your faith in The Anointed One at the ballot box:

1. By calling me a racist you cheapen the meaning of racism and therefore you have cheapened yourself.

2. I want to congratulate you for having rendered the term racism completely meaningless.

3. How is my vote for John McCain an act of racism?

4. You can do better than to call racist those with whom you disagree. I am very disappointed in you.

5. You have judged me by the color of my skin not the content of my character. Shame on you."

Or, you could just "Put them on ignore."

  1. Man, I am so tired of people using that line of reasoning. I haven't experienced it personally (no one's asked me who I am voting for either).

It does cheapen one to call it racism. There are so many people who vote Republican. Period. Why would they change their mind this election?

  2. Connection to your article link:Today,a co-worker related NPR story using the racism slant.I pointed out it was about Union phone bank workers telling stories about respondents saying "I can't vote for a Black guy",mucho moral superiority-strutting,etc.I pointed out that, first of all,it was anectdotal (Union thugs' version),then I pointed out that they were probably talking to usually-Democrat voters, being Union workers and all, which dove-tailed with my own personal experience, that the only friends telling me it's about race are "blue-dog" Democratsand EVERY Republican-oriented friend I have tells me it's the Socialism/full-of-shit angle that's the reason. You know,IDEAS.Then I said that the last 2 Pres primaries I voted for Alan Keyes, because of WHAT he said.My buddy's got these hippy in-laws putting the pressure on him,but this weekend there'll probably be a blow-up,since he's had it with their nagging.Oh,just heard on "new voter registraion" subject, there's only 1,000 difference between Reps and Demos in California, which doesn't sound so good for Obama, despite the hype...

  3. Jag,

I think this charge is mostly aimed at recalcitrant Democrats. Even Obama supporters expect Republicans to vote for a Republican, I should think.

Of course, in this insane time, one cannot be sure.
