Where Do We Go From Here?

Make sure you have the following:

  • Gold
  • Guns
  • Ammo (also good as "currency" when things get too weird)
  • Food & Water for people & pets
  • Eye-glasses & spares
  • Prescriptions
  • A full tank of gas (in a well-maintained vehicle)

Then fuck it.

Turn off talk radio. Only read the entertainment section. Delete political bookmarks. Listen to music. Dance. Laugh. Watch movies. Read novels.

Practice saying "I don't care about politics" with a straight face...and without feeling like a bad, lazy citizen—you know, like those "idiots" who prefer American Idol to American Politics, that you used to roll your eyes at, and think of as stupid, uninformed sheep!

Prepare for the incredulity of friends and loved ones.

Now, obviously the above list is just the bare bones minimum you gotta have in the event... let's collaborate on a more complete list. Here are some additional recommendations. But I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot:

Whiskey
Cigarettes
Camp stove & fuel
Candles
Rope
Sharp knives
Pet Carriers & bowls & leashes
Winter clothes & shoes (for us in California & other temperate climates)
MREs (I think that's what they're called "Meals Ready to Eat"?)
A good tent? (I'm a city girl...what the heck is a good tent, anyway?)
A good sleeping bag? Air mattress? (Ditto above)
Maps
A hideout destination...this probably should be in the first list, huh?

Help me finish this list!

Thanks,

Gunslinger

  1. Gun,
While I understand and appreciate your position of retreating to a hideout location, I believe most would be better off holding their own and defending what is theirs.
Trying to be mobile, with or without a family, while carrying enough sustaining provisions for an indefinite length of time, is well beyond the capabilities of most Americans; we've become a nation of pussies.
The vast majority of us would be far better advised to lay in a store of non-perishables (I believe the Mormons actually have a list or formula for what it takes to make it through catastrophic times), learn your environment as far as defensible strengths and weaknesses, learn the mindset of your neighbors and community in general ( are they straight up, devious or parasitic), and of course, as you stated, arms and ammunition. Ten thousand rounds of every caliber you own is not excessive. Also, please be aware that you'll have much better luck finding common caliber military ammunition (i.e. 9mm, .45, .223, .308 etc.) than you will the more obscure or exotic calibers and your finest custom rifle isn't worth a damn if you can't feed it.
Another important consideration is adequate first aid supplies and the ability to use them competently. This list could be endless, so suffice it to say, to each their own. In a pinch, one can make due with duct tape (I just know, OK?) so definitely keep it close at hand.
A hand crank radio is a must have; if you aren't current, you're lost.
By staying with your home you already have most of the basic necessities such as a roof, blankets, adequate storage etc. You have the ability to fortify a familiar position. You have in your kitchen and laundry, elements to create that which is not recommended by the manufacturer nor looked upon favorably by the BATFE.
A well thought out plan A, backed up by plan B and C, should allow you to stay in your home and keep that which is yours from being taken by the sub human bastards who would do just that if presented with the opportunity.
BTW, MRE stands for 'Meals Refused by Ethiopians', enjoy your dinner.

  2. Hmm, good point. But I'd sure feel more secure in a less unfortunate location that my uber Left-Wing California town.

    Just sayin'.

  3. Distinct and clear advantage to me!

    I'm convinced.

Thank you dear Alphadog. Bugging out would be SUCH a hassle!

  4. Admire your passion.God knows I'm in the same place, half the time. But then I pause and reflect-the current incompetents can't/won't do a damn thing to change much, regardless of their spiels. The System can allow only so much stretching. To actually think Obama or Clinton will fuck up things beyond in minor ways,is to fall into the same trap as their TrueBelievers, thinking they'll be that powerful. They are punks.God knows I almost did a spit-take while reading some dumb-ass's comment elsewhere about "when Obama fixes the Economy..."(what about a frigging IQ test for voting?)-I know,I can't hardly believe the stupidity, but actually I do still feel it's a hype.I've lived long enough (49 yrs.)to take note as to how useless the news media is to use as a guide for anything.Their record speaks for itself.I don't listen to them anymore,I watch old Monty Python skits.More logical.

  5. "(what about a frigging IQ test for voting?)"

I think anyone who voted for Bush should sit out the next election, unless they write on the blackboard "I learned my lesson" 500 times.

(Ok...the first time I voted was in '76, and I voted for Carter...so it's not like I've always gotten it right.)

It's interesting to notice how the people who think they have the most accurate judgment of the situation are the ones whose judgment put Bush and hard-line conservatives into power, who then proceeded to wreck the country. I guess I'd want to run away and hide in the woods, too.

  6. Mr. Sinai,

FYI, "Bush and hard-line conservatives" is quite incongruous..
We all would be so much better off if "hard-line conservatives" actually ran the country..
    Best get your prescription checked..
The rose is wearing off your spectacles..

  8. Wondered where you've been all this time...American idol huh? well there's worse things.
And as you said sometimes you need to just relax and have a good time.
Been doin a bit of that myself.
As far as the survival thing goes, Alphadog is all over it. If you run, they win. Make sure you know your terrain and be prepared...that's the best advice.

Glad to have you back 'slinger!inger

  9. I think all gun totin Conservatives need to settle on regional rallying points from which to launch our military offensive using a coordinated strategy. We'll plug all the air thieves within range and run the rest to Canada and Mexico.

Yes, we need a plan....and lots of ammo....and yes..good idea... duck tape...we need lots and lots of duck tape....bwahahaha....

  10. Where did she go??? I didn't think she really meant it when she said she was going survivalist.

  11. It's a moot point. When it comes down to it, conservatives have such an ingrained need to appear law abiding, that they will do whatever the government tells them. Learn to deal with reality and stop trying to scare people. FYI it's not working.

  12. Staying put in an urban environment is a strategy that needs to be thought out. Temporary defense is possibility but large numbers of your dear fellow citizens will be alerted to your resources by any serious defense thereof. The vast majority of your dear neighbors will be totally unprepared and will be interested solely in their survival regardless of what that entails for you.

At some point you need to have the option of leaving and relocating where you have a substantial cache buried, waterproofed, and hidden. If it all goes south, relocating with anything you can't just carry in your pockets or on your back will call serious attention to yourself. Even movement without apparent resources will call attention to yourself.

Don't forget water purification tablets. And bicycles.

Bottom line, it's about having options and fallback plans. Having only one plan is dangerous. A point defense in an urban environment is weak, since you give up all mobility.

Always fun to game apocalyptical scenarios. Not exactly fear mongering, Anonymous. But . . . how remote is the possibility of civil disturbance involving illegals or legal Muslims? Never happen?

  13. I want to respond to each of you, but you guys are just too great, and helpful, and well, numerous!

I see your point Alpha, about staying put. But I also see Col Bun's about WHERE you do it.

    I obviously like Bosco's idea...

And Moljnir's stand and fight...'you leave they win' attitude is tough and I like it.

I think it comes down to this: I need a place a little more remote to "stand".

And TJ, you're just like me. Worry sometimes...sometimes just say 'fuck it' and have fun.

Anonymous (not Scott who gave us a great link) is an idiot. But, hey, there's always one. He reminds us how many mush heads there are out there..an that's always helpful!

Thanks to you all. God you guys are good!
