Conservativism 101, Part 3

Alphadog wrote this as a comment on a recent post. No intro is really necessary. It speaks for itself. And for me...

"I would hate for anyone to have to guess at what I think, therefore I'll spell it out.

I think it's a shame that we've become so sensitive and politically correct that we fall over backward avoiding to say what we think for fear of offending; I think it's a shame that we've become so easily offended.

I think it's a shame that anybody who even looks sideways at Obie is labeled a racist.

I think it sucks that liberal white America is laboring under some sort of monumental guilt complex and so we get saddled with minority set asides, employment quotas, civil service exams that are handicapped in favor of minorities, college entrance requirements that are slanted in favor of minorities and a host of other reverse discrimination policies.

I absolutely hate it that we've become a pussified nation of whiners and tort happy, irresponsible, incompetents.

It pisses me off to no end that some asshole with a gun goes off the deep end and the way to solve the problem is to step on my Second Amendment rights.

There are so many things that twist my guts:

The acceptance of mediocrity.

The abysmal condition of our school systems.

The great Global Warming hoax.

Failed social programs that we keep throwing money at in a futile effort to fix.

A tax system that requires no new taxes when all that has to be done is revise the tax code in order to further bleed us out at gun point.

Safe Haven cities for illegals.

Liberals demanding that somebody do something about the energy situation and our dependence on foreign oil while at the same time banning drilling in the Gulf and the ANWR, no new refineries, no new nuke plants, no wind farms that might disturb their view and corn prices that are ridiculously high because so many have mistakenly bought into the myth that ethanol is our energy salvation.

I could go on but by now I'm sure you've figured out that I'm the stereotypical "Angry White Male". While I would never suppose that I speak for anyone other than myself, I don't think I'm alone in my sense of frustration. And yet I still believe, perhaps foolishly, that this period of darkness can be overcome.

Look not to the candidate that promises to do the most for you, but to the candidate that will do the least to you."

Does it get better than this?

Thanks AD. Again.

  1. It's a bit more than a sideways glance to, for example, tell Obama to "stick it up his half breed ass." People are too hung up about racism, that we can agree on, but racial slurs are only divisive and hateful.

Affirmative action is a complex issue. No one should feel guilty for things they basically had nothing to with. On the other hand, America has benefited so much from enslaved and disenfranchised Blacks and other minorities in so many ways. It doesn't work to say "you're free now, and so on an even playing field" or to say that everyone is equal after the civil rights movement (we're not). In many cases, affirmative action is no more than a gov. mandate that people be fair (with no specifics about race and gender).

I agree that ideally, this does not fall under the government's purview, but here we are today with so many race-problems still. It would be a travesty to tear down affirmative action laws with no plan and no change of heart. America has made leaps and bounds toward equality under the law, and before long, it will be timely and appropriate to take these laws off the books.

Now, things like hate-crime laws are a whole different subject, and they violate the First Amendment.

Global warming - there's evidence for and against. The jury is still out - get over it. (And IMHO, it's better to be safe than sorry in the face of the unknown.)

Plenty of social programs work fine (or are better than nothing) and deserve more funding.

Don't give up on ethanol - there are a lot of breakthroughs being made in this area (none of which involve corn - think sewage or grass as the source).

Other than that I agree with y'all. (Well, I do have a healthy fear of nuclear plants...)

Some other things I don't like are the constant erosion of First Amendment rights (for speech, other forms of expression, separation of Church and State), the Fourth Amendment (the recent Bush/NSA scandals and the PATRIOT Act being only the tip of the iceberg), Amendment VI (Gitmo whether the violations are in law or in spirit), Amendment IX (The "War on Drugs" which is basically funding organized crime the world over, silly things like state bans on sex toys and bans on gay marriage - what the fuck is government mixed up with marriage for anyway), and of course the Tenth (a huge congress passing more and more useless laws and generally sticking their nose everywhere it doesn't belong).

One thing I want to make clear: I'm not hear to laugh at "the angry White males" or to act superior. I'm here because you all seem like genuinely reasonable people, and I want to "get to the bottom of things."

    Cheers,
    Jag

  2. Affirmative Action has become the very perfection of racism: Favoring certain skin colors over others.

Certain Southern Plantation owners benefited from slave labor. "America" didn't benefit from it any more than it benefited from child labor in factories, mine workers and mill workers, and all manner of other industrial revolution displaced, hungry, overworked, underpaid Whites, who died of black-lung and cave-ins and starvation and overwork...whose descendants are not whining for special privileges and welfare and special treatment and set-asides and reparations!

Affirmative Action has NEVER been about fairness. It has ALWAYS been about quotas. It was understood to be: "In competition for a job, a black applicant with the same qualifications as a white must get equal consideration for the job."

And everybody thought it was a fair and good idea. Because that WOULD be a good idea.

But in practice it is: "You must hire at least X number of Blacks—regardless of their qualifications—or you will be sued and/or prosecuted."

Any Black in America, just like any White who stays in school, works hard, is self-disciplined and focused can become successful.

There is virtually NO barrier on any level because of skin color.

Racial "disadvantage" is the enduring, diseased myth of our time.

Condaleeza Rice is Secretary of State. Obie is a Senator, and a very viable candidate for President. Blacks all over the country are millionaires, business owners, CEOs, doctors, lawyers, State governors, Mayors of major cities. Some of the highest paid entertainers and sport idols are Black.

Exactly what is necessary for them to be "equal"?

What "change of heart" is required, and by whom?

I suggest that the education-despising, drug-taking, unmarried mother, gang-banging, angry, resentful, envious ghetto blacks need a "change of heart" to do the work necessary to better their condition...just like every single other person in the country has to do to get ahead.

    And that's EQUALITY and FREEDOM.

They've GOT 'em. They just don't LIKE 'em. EQUALITY and FREEDOM are a lot of work. You have the same chance as everyone else, but you have to WORK for it. And you have the FREEDOM to succeed or fail, based on your own effort and ambition.

But it's easier to blame "racism for your failure to get off your ass. Of course, the pleasure of casting blame is limited, 'cause in the end, you're still ignorant, lazy and poor.

  3. You don't seem to know what affirmative action is. There are no Federal laws regarding employment outside of the Federal gov (which while not perfect, at least has some basis in representative government as it has come to be known over the past 200+ years).

The difference between the miners, etc. and Blacks is that Blacks were enslaved by this country and the other people weren't. (Not to mention their descendants get the same protection under the law as Blacks and everyone else - that includes welfare and affirmative action.)

We'll be a free nation when everyone has an equal opportunity to be educated (equally), employed, and to live in an environment where you aren't going to get shot at randomly.

The "education-despising, drug-taking, unmarried mother, gang-banging, angry, resentful, envious ghetto blacks" do need a change of heart. The thing is, how are you supposed to break out of a cycle of oppression that started over 300 years ago just because your "massas" say "Oh. You're free now. Good luck." It isn't that simple. It's not something you just snap your fingers and erase from the souls of a people. It's EVERYONE's responsibility not just Whites and Blacks. Every American has a responsibility to make America Free and Equal.

It isn't just about skin color. There's plenty of White people and other races that are in similar situations. (And affirmative action helps them too.) Everyone should be equal and free. Not just Whites.

So... you're arguments just don't hold water. You seem to just be getting angry, and if you don't care to debate this reasonably then let's just drop it. I'm laying my cards on the table, and I would appreciate if you would do the same. But that's the last time I'll ask for anything from you.
