Mourning an Almost Perfect Season

I am absolutely not a football fan anymore. I haven't watched a game in maybe 10 years.

But I watched today's Super Bowl, and now wished I hadn't.

This boy should have won. He was on the verge of a major record. A perfect season and post season. All he needed was one more win...the Big One.

And his team let him down. He got rushed and harried and sacked. It was the kind of football that makes you crazy as a fan. I've heard from those who follow these things, that the Patriots have played magnificent ball this year. You couldn't have told that from this performance. They never seemed to get in sync. They didn't hit their stride until the end of the last quarter. But it was too little too late. It's just a damn shame.

Oh, yes, it was a close game. And people who like that sort of thing will think it was a "great game!" (I personally prefer to have my team out in front by 21 points pretty much from kick-off, so I can relax.) But the mistakes and mess-ups by the Pats were what did them in. And while I know it should be about the team, and not just all about Brady, he happens to be from the town next door to the one I grew up in. He went to Serra High School, the alma mater of many of my male classmates (Catholic boys school).

I wanted to see him win. And after all I heard, I expected him to. Watching the damn game was torture. Which might have been worth it if the Patriots had won. But watching them lose after the 2 minute warning was depressing.

Now I remember why I don't watch football anymore. There are enough disappointments in life without this.

  1. Ha-ha. Go Giants!! (NY and SF)

Nobody is allowed to win more Super Bowls than Joe Montana, or challenge the 49ers as the best football team ever!!

Don't worry Carol. Brady's not exactly washed-up, and as much as I hate to admit it, he'll probably be back in the Super Bowl soon.

I didn't know Serra was a Catholic School. Didn't Barry Bonds go to Serra?

  2. So you think you're disappointed, I'm an Ohio State fan.

  3. Steve, yes, I think Bonds did go there. I just heard that yesterday. (I don't keep up on these things).

Being in the Super Bowl "soon" will never make up for the loss Sunday.

As someone said, they will take that loss to their graves. It's just such a shame.

I didn't care about his just "winning the Super Bowl", but about the spectacular record he almost set. That opportunity will never come again. And that makes it a heartbreaker.

I stopped caring about the Niners when Y.A. Tittle was quarterback.

I subsequently became a rabid Raider fan...until they broke my heart when they moved to L.A.

At that point, I completely gave up the game.

Alpha...I don't know what that means. As little as I normally care about professional football, I know NOTHING whatever about college ball. (My Dad used to love it, though)
